I picked up a Vortex Venom mini RDS recently from a CGN sponsor to complete my 226 project slide. I was a bit disappointed that it was previously opened and tinkered with ie elevation dial was a bit chewed up and there was some sharpie (don't know if this is normal) markings by the light emitter. Grrrr
I had picked up a CADEX Sig 226 RDS mount from OST and a second 226 slide from a CGNer way back in early 2014. The parts have been sitting in my locker until this week when I finally decided to pick up the mini RDS.
CADEX description is pretty vague with zero specs but they do mention Doc Optics, MRDS etc. I had to do a lot of googling over the year to see what those base profiles are like etc.
It turns out that the CADEX mount uses M3 screws for mounting the optic and not 6-48 screws like other RDS brands such as Burris, Vortex etc. Guess who found out the hard way last night? Fortunately the locking pins layout is like that of the Burris and Vortex Venom. I'm not sure if that's a standard among mini RDS brands.
I popped into the local RC hobby store and picked up some M3x8 cap screws (found the size in the Doctor Optics manual) and I figured that the smaller M3 screws would have a bit of wiggle room so I took a chance and grabbed some 3mm washers at the same time. I lucked out with the washers as they fit the recessed screw slots in the Venom perfectly!
My project slide is now done...
I knew the optic would sit pretty high above the bore but didn't realize that it would THAT much. I feel like I'm holding the gun above my head at times. I'll see if it stays this way after a few range sessions else I'll send the slide off to Casey to get milled and the RDS installed or the mini-RDS will end up on a rifle. lol
