Traded my vz for a norinco AR-15. Don't have it in hand yet, waiting on transfer, but I think I got a fair trade. What do you guys think? Comes with all that is attached. Don't hate me because its norinco, I don't mind them, don't know if I'll even like the AR platform so I didn't go for high quality.

I've also been wondering about parts, if I decide to customise it, is mil-spec stuff just a scam or what?

Any ar is better than no ar! I don't know why some insist on crapping all over the Norinco ar's, it by far the best product I have seen with that stamp on it. They shoot fairly well, have a barrel life of 10,000 rnds (shooing bimetal bullets at a fairly high rate of fire) and I have yet to hear of one failing. Enjoy it, shoot it, abuse it, make it your #####.
 
Mil-spec is not necessarily a scam.

Buffer tubes for example are much better in mil-spec. (and in turn stocks only properly fit on the correct tube)

Some parts actually have a mil-spec rating, and others (like cheap lasers) say they do, when in fact there is no military specification for that type of laser... therefore they are just saying it for marketing.
 
As stated an AR of any brand is better then no AR. Also get ready for the never ending web browsing for parts.
 
Congrats on getting in to the AR game. Now you're gonna have to start thinking about things like: better scope mount (that scope looks a little too far back for my tastes), larger changing handle and mags - lots of mags, Alexander Arms mags if you can find 'em!

Is he ambi safety stock on a Norc? or did the previous owner put that on?

Oh and one last thing - why would you trade in a VZ - I'd have kept it and just told it it has a western cousin to hang with now. :)

I have a Bushnell tactical turret ar-223 scope I'm gonna put on it.

I've got some beos :)

I have a cz 858. I didn't sell the good one ;) the vz58 was in .223

Nothing wrong with it, but as I said I have a cz858 and the value of the VZ and the AR trade was very close in $ value. So I pulled the trigger.
