I picked up a sporterized 1916 SMLE a week ago and I'm in the process of cleaning it up. An issue I'm having is that the magazine won't seat properly in the receiver, like it's not hitting the catch or something? I can see a gap of about 3/16" between the bottom of the bolt and the top of the magazine. I've cleaned a bunch of gunk out from the magwell and I still cannot get it to seat all the way. I was also wondering if anyone had experience in adjusting the feed lips of these magazines? Thanks.

You MAY have a magazine for a No.4. Look at the catch at the back of the mag and look at google or another source for a close up of the differences between the two. There are mags for sale on the EE, and I think there's one that clearly shows the backs of each type.

That's possible. Here's a picture of the magazine.

That is a No.1 magazine. You'll have to figure out why it is not seating. Don't be messing with the feedlips until you have the magazine fitted and have determined if they need adjustment.

No4 mags will fit in a no1 mk3 rifle, it's the no1 that won't fit the no4. At least that's the case with my no1, the no4 mag I have fits and feeds fine.

I just picked up a promag no1mark3 mag the other day but have as of yet to try it out matbe tomorrow night to see how it fits anf if it may need any messing with .
