Do any other guns have a better bang for your buck than the Tikka ?

I understand that Tikka has a greatly simplified design. It's as cheap a design as a Ruger American or a Savage Axis, sure, but that design was executed very well. Beautiful machining, terrific fit and finish. The Tupperware stock is about the best Tupperware out there, the trigger is great.

All the guns that have come up here are really darn good. Like "can't go wrong" good.

I'm only really interested in stainless hunting rifles these days.

Well, I'm sure Beretta and Stoeger are picking our pockets, too. They suck, and suck bad. Still, to me Tikka is worth it.

I use Leupold scopes because Korth is awesome to deal with, so I'm interested to try Kimber and Ruger. However, I do like a magazine... No right answers!

Yup me... About 5 posts before you.... Mine couldn't shoot worth crap.. Picked it up used though so who knows what the guy before me did to it...

Got a Weatherby vanguard S2 Varmint and couldn't be happier...

The Varmint is a bit more pricy but I think its worth it... Yote special !

Quick question for the 308 tikka guys who handload. How close or far from the lands are the bullets when the round is loaded to magazine length?

The answer depends on the bullet you're using. With the right tool you can measure using brass fired in that particular rifle, and the bullet you intend to load with. Each rifle will be slightly different within industry standards.
The measurement you're looking for references the "ogive" of a given bullet. Like any other factory rifle, the Tikka falls within industry standards, and so does factory ammo.
That being said, I haven't done this yet with mine. When I start reloading for 308, which is maybe someday, I will.
