After seeing the Bigfoot thread I thought I'd post my own.
What's the biggest goose you've ever harvested? I keep hearing about the mythical 16 + pound goose but no one ever seems to have proof... Always the same story, shot one and had it weighed on certified scales, or checked by a ministry officer. I've been fortunate enough to see a lot of geese riding in the back of trucks over the years and have never seen one over 13. Lad I knew shot the 13 pounder and won a big goose competition.
Here's one I shot and he only weighed 12 (I'm 6' for comparison)

I only went out a couple mornings this year for the honkers, and before that it's been over a decade. Got two on my first outing and zilch on the second (my fault entirely). The first weighed 10lbs and the second was a shade under 13lbs. From my poor memory I'm sure I've shot a few that were a little bigger than my recent 13lb'er, but we never weighed them back when I was much younger and did lots of goose and duck hunting.

Shot a couple of the giant Canada this fall off my back lawn by the river. The one was a big, had to get a rope on him and tow him up to the garage with the ATV ;) ;). Seriously he was a big fella, in the same size and weight category as the one in your picture, I never weighed it but he was hefty.

Hunting on the west coast of Ucluelet. Out of the 28 geese we shot 3 weighed 18 lbs and the smallest weighed 6 lbs. My biggest to date is 18 lbs 6 oz.

I did see a huge honker one time up in the far north of James bay. We were driving down the road and a native hunter stood up to show us the goose he had and it seemed to nearly drag on the ground when he held it up at shoulder height. No it was not a swan!! It was far larger than any goose I had ever seen before and since. My head sure spun around as we drove past!! No clue as to weight, but the average giant Canada up there is much bigger than the little Canadas I see out on the prairie in south west Sask.

I've shot a few abnormally large Canada's this year with the largest being a couple oz short of 18 lbs. To put into perspective, in the following pictures the middle goose was just over 13lbs. The goose to the right of it was almost 18lbs and the goose to the left was 17lbs.

Sorry but that middle goose is 9lbs and the outside are 12/13lbs.

Any wild goose that flies in and gets shot will never be over 15lbs. A decoy manufacturer had a promotion on for a very long time. Send him a goose over 15lbs and get a dozen full body decoys. For years nothing. Finally a kid sent one in with a official weight from post office. When it arrived it weighed 14 point something before of water loss after it dies. The shop did a experiment with other geese and determined the goose would of weighed 15 when shot before a few days of drying out.

So to say politely but bluntly it's plain science and a birds metabolism with flying around and living life can not be more then that. Has been been cases of the maxima strain of Canada's being over? Yes. Old studies of maximas captured and relocated before being released were 16-20lbs. But that was in captivity.

Is it possible you shot a 17 and 18 lb goose, umm no. Also. If that birds an 18 lb goose that's Must be a 2-3lb buffle laying beside it.

Like you SB I have shot a PILE of Canada's. Biggest I ever took I weighed on a Berkley digital fish scale just to satisfy my curiosity and it tipped the scale at 14.1. I have weighed several others in the 12 to 13 range and they are big birds when they get to that size. I would like to see the readouts for these 17 and 18 pound mutants!! There is an outdoor writer in the U.S by the name of L.P Brezny. He has some secret flock in some secret part of Minnesota where they supposedly shoot 20+ pounders in the late season and use 3.5" T-shot out to 110 yards?!! I never read so much B.S in my life! That Wildfowl magazine would even publish his writings blows my mind. I cancelled my subscription years ago when they started printing his articles endorsing shooting birds at 100-110 yards!!

Biggest goose I've ever shot or seen was one during late season in February. Was a true maxima descendant from the relocated ones brought here in the 60s/70s. The golden eyebrow crown etc.

It was the biggest gander of the bunch and bigger then the other 6 honkers shot that day. Weighed it. 13.7lbs biggest goose I've seen out of over 1000.

Right, because you were present to weigh them yourself!?!? If you made that comment prior to last week, i would have been inclined to agree with you. I would have been the first to say i dont believe it until I see it. Well, i saw it, weighed it and now believe it. Up until those two birds, which were taken together, I dont ever recall shooting a goose that weighed over 14lbs. With that said, I like to say that I care about the facts you apparently have of birds you've never seen or handled, but sadly I dont.

I use T shot myself and love how they pattern out of my gun and how effective they are on a distance shot. But I would consider a far shot to be pass shooting at 40 yards. Wouldnt even think of taking a shot over that regardless of either my capabilities or the effectiveness of the load. 110 yards is ridiculous...I seriously doubt the accuracy of that article. The guy must be trying to out do the guy who makes 130 yard shots on clay pigeons.

I should add for clarity here given all the controversy, that when I towed that goose with the ATV I had to use low range and 4x4 to get it up the incline to the garage. ;)
