I just reworked a new chrome NP29. The one I got must have been made on Friday, but I have an older one that was made well too.
It was a project gun so I gave it the full accuracy treatment in any case.
Here's some tips.
Don't get the all chrome model unless you are changing out the sights. They are chromed too and you cannot see with them.
Some of the triggers are OK on the new ones, but I always do a complete trigger and action job on mine.
Check the barrel bushing. I had to replace the one on mine as it was too loose. New one was match fitted and accuracy is now excellent.
They mistakenly installed a .45ACP slide stop and they don't always lock back the slide on the last shot in 9mm mags.
Check the extractor. Usually need some tightening up.
The hard chromed ones don't have sharp edges and are fine IMO.
The Chinese mags that come with it are OK and I've been using them in matches with my McCormicks .38 Super mags too.
In conclusion:
These are a good entry level 1911 gun. Made from forged steel and can be upgraded.
The NP29 uses the pencil 9mm barrel, but so did Colt back in the day.
They work fine and the two I own are as accurate as any CZ Shadow I've fired.
