I have ordered an NP29 and it's coming soon. I'd like to know if anybody has experience with this particular model, specifically in which magazines will operate in it.
Any info appreciated.
Glen

It's a single stack 1911. It takes special 9mm mags that only fit a 1911 frame. The 9mm mags have indented guides along the sides of the mag to center the smaller ammo inside what is otherwise a full size .45acp mag. There's also a rear filler to make up for the shorter round as well.

Like any Norinco gun they might or might not have some little niggling issues with the fit and finish. My own NP29 is going to receive a full all out de-horning (this is a softening of all the edges) since the slide serrations are as sharp as a food processor blade. And that's not the only place.

However it's worth it. Someone that fixed theirs up and fitted it with a mag well for giggles produced a gun which is truly an amazing shooter. They may slip up on the little details bot the stuff at the core of the gun is pretty darn good.... for the most part.

I just reworked a new chrome NP29. The one I got must have been made on Friday, but I have an older one that was made well too.
It was a project gun so I gave it the full accuracy treatment in any case.

Here's some tips.
Don't get the all chrome model unless you are changing out the sights. They are chromed too and you cannot see with them.
Some of the triggers are OK on the new ones, but I always do a complete trigger and action job on mine.
Check the barrel bushing. I had to replace the one on mine as it was too loose. New one was match fitted and accuracy is now excellent.
They mistakenly installed a .45ACP slide stop and they don't always lock back the slide on the last shot in 9mm mags.
Check the extractor. Usually need some tightening up.
The hard chromed ones don't have sharp edges and are fine IMO.
The Chinese mags that come with it are OK and I've been using them in matches with my McCormicks .38 Super mags too.

In conclusion:
These are a good entry level 1911 gun. Made from forged steel and can be upgraded.
The NP29 uses the pencil 9mm barrel, but so did Colt back in the day.
They work fine and the two I own are as accurate as any CZ Shadow I've fired.

I've owned a couple now. Always stuck to factory mags so nothing interesting to share.. the only issue I had was steel cased ammo getting stuck in the chamber and not ejecting properly. Other than that, they were great bang for the buck.

I would say my 29 has an excellent fit and finish, at least on the outside. It took about 500 rds, to smooth out the inside.
I got extra clips on E.E.. They were Colt mags from their 1911 9mm.
It's accurate now, but I almost gave up on it.
A good load I found was 115 gr./4.6gr. Unique with an OAL of 1.095

Thanks for all the info folks. Appreciate it. I did some research before ordering so I knew of some of the possible ejector issues. Will see how it works when it gets here.
I ordered the chrome model and if it works well, will do some dressing up on it including new trigger, grips and sights (within IPSC rules).
I also wanted another 9mm so both my kids can do the next Black Badge course in Minor Power class.
Thanks again,
Glen

How are you guys finding the Tripp 10 round mags?
I heard problems with the McCormick and Wilson 10 rounders.

I've had no issues with any of those brand magazines in 9mm and 45ACP.

Promag tho......those are horrible pieces of garbage.

Endless nose diving of rounds/Failures to feed, FMJ or JHP and the "sleeve" that covers the extended part of the magazine does not like to stay in place.

These 2 vids are my .45 Norc 1911

Using factory Norinco then Promag 10 rounders.

Chip McCormick 10 Round Power Mags.

An seems I can only post 2 videos at a time so here is the NP29 then.

This vid is my NP29, first magazine is a Tripp Research 10 rounder and I am eager to get more of them.

The chrome plating on the front sight is very deep. The light colour on it makes it invisible.

I took a file to the face of the sight and took off the chrome, and then made the sight face black with cold blue.

Or, replace the sight with a fibre optic. This will involve milling a wider dovetail. the Norc dovetail is non-standard.

what type of sights will fit an NP29 then? I've done some googling, but never come up with a concrete answer. do I absolutely have to get the slide milled or is there an aftermarket option?
