Bigfoot ... ???

Occams razor demands the simplest explanation. If there really is a 10ft primate in North America, it's more likely to be a species that we know existed but thought was extinct.

Gigantopithecus blacki went extinct in China about 100kya, and is about the right size at 3m. It's not impossible that it survived later than thought and crossed the bearing land bridge, but there's no evidence of this. It also doesn't match up well with the bigfoot mythology, given that it was probably vegetarian and quadrupedal. It's also more closely related to orangutans than to humans or our closest cousins, chimps.

Another candidate would be homo erectus palaeojavanicus. These were a giant human species know from a few fossils found only on Java. They're closer to the bigfoot mythology, being bipedal and omnivorous. But it seems unlikely that they would have been able to maintain their size while they expanded through (presumably) interfertile h. erectus territory and ended up in NA. A good question at this point would be why h. e. palaeojavanicus crossed instead of the typical-sized h. erectus. (Not really looking for a PIDOOMA answer.)

The suggestion of aliens just needs so many more assumptions. That they exist, that they can travel faster than light or are billions of years ahead of us, that they have any interest in visiting and that they have any interest in visiting to leave behind hairy humanoids, that they have interest in concealing their presence and they're good enough to never leave any physical evidence despite sometimes landing on roads. And how they manage to be spotted so frequently but never photographed. Well, I guess that's the same assumption that we have to make with any bigfoot origin.

gosh, I'm astonished, your many words are, well, I'm a gr-8'er, I just don't understand what all ya said! They is big words! I believe what you are saying, I think! So, maybe you could detune those big terms, if you get a few mins, if you will, I'd like to get back into the thread and understand what is being said and back on track at my speed of readability. (<holy, that word turned out correct:d)! Thank you much!

Which words? Gigantopithecus blacki and homo erectus palaeojavanicus are large extinct primates. You can look them up for more info. bipedal means walked on 2 legs and omnivorous means it eats plants and animals. quadrupedal means it walks on 4 legs. Interfertile means capable of breeding the same way that a wolf and a domestic dog are interfertile.

thank you for the education, it helps, but I doubt that I'll ever remember those big words. I wish the originators would have just kept things simple. I find that "homo erectus" a little questionable! I wonder why/how they were used to describe a large extinct playmate.

They look like big words but once you get used to them it's easy. Look at dino names like t. Rex. If you'd never seen the word before you'd be saying "taranawhat?" But after hearing and saying it a few times it's easy.

Yeah, homo erectus makes for a great set up for a lot of jokes.

Don't you go fretting over all this "homo-erectus" and "homosapien" stuff two-dogs. We don't need you to start being a "homo-phobe", next thing you know you'll be coming unglued in the grocery store when you see "homo" milk. BTW that is short for "homogenized" . Homogenization is any of several processes used to make a mixture of two mutually non-soluble liquids the same throughout. This is achieved by turning one of the liquids into a state consisting of extremely small particles distributed uniformly throughout the other liquid. A typical example is the homogenization of milk, where the milk fat globules are reduced in size and dispersed uniformly through the rest of the milk or in simpler grade 8 words it makes milk taste better.

^ lol! I don't fret any buying milk, I just reach for the 2% marked in big letters, check the good to go date and run! I keep a Coleman cooler in the trunk of my cherry '99 Taurus for these groc pick up trips! Haven't had a problem so far!

C'ept fer the frukc'd up frunt bumper................. Laugh2
Oar wuzz that the mininski van?

Nobody interested in my introduction thread? Was intended for the followers of this thread. ;)

1% is my drink of choice Two-Dogs, that 2% is high test for the experienced folks.

What does bigfoot prefer to drink?

I read your new intro thread and offered to help you with the EE, which you refused. Bigfoot prefers to drink Kokanee beer. It's the beer out here. In BC.

yeah, that is quite likely, but if they were ever to try Miller Lite, I'm sure they would switch to that. Every living soul loves ML, and it's healthy for you!

If there was one track in softer sand/gravel, did you take any pics of the rest of the tracks? There had to have been more, especially with something that large and heavy.

Superbrad, I say 0.00000001%, unless you include very tall hairy Italians, then it's 99.99%. I know some from the Toronto area that would intimidate Bigfoot, if Bigfoot existed.

So in 250 years of Taxonomic classification we have everything neatly categorized and recorded?
I'd have to disagree, I could easily see the Himalayas, the coastal forests of Eastern Africa, California, and the Caribbean as hotspots for new discoveries of numerous types.

Honestly, I'm willing to believe in some unknown primate that we are calling we Bigfoot, Sasquatch or whatever other names are in use. But the more I think about it, the more I hope that we never prove its existence. If they find Bigfoot, then another little bit of mystery and magic will have disappeared from the world, and that would be a shame.

Not only that, but if they then classify it as another species of the genus Homo (Homo megapodicus, maybe? :)), that means it will be considered as another species of human. Suddenly, Bigfoot will qualify for social assistance. Bigfoot will have huge advantages over little ol' me when applying for many jobs, especially government ones. Bigfoot will have subsidized housing, medical coverage, old-age benefits and all the other perks of modern Canadian society. The Liberal government will trip over its own feet in the mad dash to ensure that there will Bigfoot representation at all levels of the bureaucracy. Many of us already know the horror of trying to communicate with a government employee who apparently speaks no comprehensible language, but is armed with a sense of entitlement and the knowledge that he/she has the power to thoroughly f$%& you up...just imagine how much worse it would be if that clerk were a Bigfoot???

^^^^ yeah, did you hear what he said, Bill? I'll just repeat it for you in case you missed it ^^^^. Hotspots are out there, including north of PA!

I read and understood his post, although IMO his arguement is full of holes and misleading information. An opinion is an opinion, most are based upon rumours and beliefs, not facts.

I read(I believe it was a Discovery interview published in whatever their medium is called, maybe Discovery.com?) that scientist(again I think some where from the Univ of Hawaii) calculating that given the database of 1.x million categorized so far there are then likely 85% on land yet to be be found and 90+ yet to found in the seas.

Doesn't mean Bigfoot exists of course yet it does speak to just how little we really know and have discovered at this point in time.

but but but, what about the foot prints and the hair that Kelly found. Those prints were huge, no man could have made them, not even the spank with his size 13's and weighing in at 350+. That hair smelled so bad, like nothing else known to mankind! I think we are talking Big Foot facts here!

Those aren't facts. I don't even think it a was footprint, and even if it did look like a footprint, it still could have been a hoax. Smelly hair is not proof that bigfoot exists, because there's other explanations for smelly hair. Of course, if it was genetically tested, and came from an anomalous primate, then it's evidence (not proof.)

By all means, post a link to that study.

If true, the vast majority of those would be bacteria, virus, insects, etc. Nothing that would be particularly impressive.

This article says that between 1/3 and 2/3rds of marine species have been discovered but emphasis on the fact that's just an estimate.

Nobody doubts that there are unknown creatures out there but the bigger and more unique it is, the harder it is to believe that it could maintain a stable breeding population without leaving behind any evidence.

It's like we get it already, someone is a non-believer....why not just start a Bigfoot doesn't exist thread. :)
