I'm in the market for a new savage, I've had the model 111 and loved the thing. But now it's time to reach a little further. I am stuck between the 10TR and the 10FCP, are there any major differences? I am really leaning toward the FCP-SR because of the detachable 10 round box magazine. But am I paying 200 extra bucks for the mag feature? Thanks for any help.

Yes you are. It is exactly the same except for the mag and bottom metal. However, that isn't a bad thing, as i believe they take AI mags, which are much easier to get than the Savage ones.
I bought the 10tr, as i intend to put it in a chassis eventually.
The last 10FCP-SR i saw was over $1000 +tax. I picked up my 10TR for $670 out the door. So it may be a little more than $200 you are saving.

Someone may correct me here but I believe the FCP SR is the replacement model for the 10 TR. Either way I have friends with both of these models, I have the 10 FCP in the McMillan stock, all produce excellent groups and each have nice features. On a hunting application the 10 TR is ligther and comes to the shoulder nicely from a standing position. The advantages with the FCP SR is the bottom metal and the FCP SR can come with a 20 inch barrel. If you are looking to put on a match barrel it wont matter because you can choose the size you want anyways, but if you are running it with the factory barrel and like short barrels like I do that is a consideration. I also like bottom metal as the savage mags arent that great and arent that easy to come by, (the FCP McMillan has savage mags). If I were to buy one I would get the FCP SR, I just advised my brother to get the same thing and watched my friend make a decent first round hit on an elk last week under fairly challenging conditions. Overall I think it is an excellent package and if I didnt already have 3 different .308 I would probably look at getting one myself. Not too expensive and overall a good all around rifle, was fairly impressed with the groups it would shoot even though it isnt bedded, it also comes with a one piece base so you do get a good amount of options.
i have an older model fcp sr, the one that came in the digital tan camo, with AI mags. If you arent getting a chassis anyways go for the 10 fcp sr, at least you can use the 10 rounder, the barrel fluting is nice too. As for accuracy i've used both and there is no difference, typical savage sub moa with either. I use norinco .308 in my fcp sr in an mdt hs3 chassis and get about 1.5-2 moa out to 400 metres. Nice setup, bolt is a little sloppy, but the accuracy is there on either of the guns you mention, so if accuracy is your prime objective you cant go wring with either. Keep a look out for a used fcp sr on the EE, i got mine for under 900 bucks.
There are still a few of the older fcp-sr around, great rifle for the money, like eldarbo said the camo coating is great, but the metal mag is a great thing, I think the newer ones are poly as they tried to keep the price down! Our local CTC got one in on my recommendation when I seen that they could still get the old model!
I got the FCP-SR recently and I quite like mine. It's a used model, and it's the older one with the digital tan stock. Originally I tried to order the new model through a local shop that typically has no problems getting rifles in, and after about four months they were recommending I look for something else. Also, I think the newer models (black stock) use proprietary Savage mags, which is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I don't know if any of this has changed since I got my rifle. My FCP-SR is definitely a 'sit in one spot and shoot' gun, not a 'walk around and look for something to shoot' gun.
You guys just made my day!!!!! Ordered the FCP-SR on cabelas about five hours ago after doing some research. Then took a closer look to only realize they sell the new model without the tan camo stock and the god awful plastic mag.... I immediately canceled my order and am heading to Canadian tire in the morning to pick up the FCP-SR with the metal mag and tan stock. I heard the plastic savage mags on the newer model are just terrible. Glad I noticed it before I got the thing.
Let me know if they do not have it in stock, I will get the order # from our local guy! They have 2 major suppliers for CTC one of them still had this model, I did see one of our sponsors with it but forget which one, if someone knows please chime in as it would be great to buy from a sponsor!
Well went to Ukrainian tire today and picked up the one I wanted, got a 100 bucks off because of a little chip in the butt pad!!!! Was gonna happen eventually anyways. So it worked out because I got the one I wanted and cheaper than cabelas.

Yah the 24" barrel. That's all they had and what I wanted. She's a heavy bastard but it's all good. I don't intend to use it as a bench rest rifle either, I'll be trekking it through the bush asking why the hell I bought such a heavy rifle.....

You should have no problem carrying the rifle thru the bush. I carry my 10fcp-k for deer season and log over 5 miles a day thru thick brush and hilly country. Can't remember exactly but my weighs in over 11lbs. I'm semi fit since I have to keep pace with a 4yr old lol. Biggest issue I have is lenght in thick brush otherwise is not bad for a few days of hunting.
Ahahah yah I'm not too worried, I was given the C6 GPMG to carry back in my army days. Can't recall how heavy that stupid thing was but a lot heavier than the savage. I didn't have to keep up with a 4 year old though, that is never easy.
Well if you are not fit, you will be after hunting season, I see every thing is square with you!
