Cmmg mk47 mutant

I have the full length version of the mutant heavily upgraded. It's a great rifle.

I have one and love it. No issues so far except that apparently the way that I oriented the mag catch spring is incorrect. No issues in its function however.

The only issue I heard about the mutant from a member on ARF got a bad rifle from the factory. He sent it to CMMG and made it right and now he's very happy with it. You can read about that entire saga here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/17...buy_a_gun_that_severely_disappoints_you_.html

My rifle has been reliable and shoots straight. Other than a few mag locks due to myself or others botching the reload and missing the catch on the rifle, I've had zero issues. Easy fix: either bop out the mag or pop out the mag catch.

I wish the mag catch had a captive spring since I can't seem to orient mine in the manner that CMMG says to. That being said, my gun seems to function fine with the way I did it and I can't see how it can be done any other way.

Overall, buy with confidence. Even if the gun gives you issues, CMMG will take care of you and make it 100% right. They have great customer service.

The gun is highly customizable and mine looks pretty slick if I do say so myself. The stock, rail, grip and brake have been replaced and I couldn't be happier.

Ran well in the rain and mud at a 2-day carbine course and at an outdoor rifle shoot.

7.62x39 soviet, not 7.62x51 NATO(.308). Big difference.

He's talking about the usual problems that manufacturers got into when making AR-15s chambered in 7.62x39mm instead of making a dedicated x39 platform like the Mk47 Mutant. It literally has nothing to do with .308.

Correct, a standard AR-15 converted to x39 is a headache waiting to happen.
The mutant looks to be the best rifle available for guys wanting an AR style rifle chambered in x39. Magazines designed for the cartridge and a boltface beefy enough to survive years of use sounds like a winner if you're in the market for a rifle like this.
If only the RCMP lab realized this rifle is not an AR and deemed it non restricted. It only looks like an AR and shares a similar operating system (just like another rifle now available as NR in 308win that will soon have a little brother) but the upper/lower and BCG are all different. It actually shares less compatible parts than the other rifle I eluded to. I don't want to name it as I don't want to risk tipping off the anti's monitoring our chat and having them try to have it reclassified.

The RCMP labs probably didn't take long to clasify this restricted due to the capability to use all old and new AK magazines. In my opinion it was more political then being a variant.

Much appreciated!

Rifle has quite a few mods to it. Next and final upgrade will be a TA-33 ACOG calibrated for the 7.62x39 reticle out of the 16" barrel (red horseshoe reticle for me).

Mods are as follows:

PWS FSC30 (amazing job at recoil/muzzle flip control)
Badger GenII latch (a must if you want to run the charging handle ok a regular basis)
Midwest industries 12" M-LOK rail
Magpul Fixed carbine stick with enhanced rubber buttpad (can't feel a thing when this rifle shoots)

Other stuff includes a K2 grip and AFG-2 grip and ambi sling plate.

Only thing is those ACOG's calibrated for 7.62x39 are a huge no go. Been trying to import one for years.

Went an even better route for optic. I have a 4x Browe BCO in 7.62x39 that I'm just waiting to put on the mutant. Check out that optic Donster

I think things have changed. I got a quote from Wanstalls for around $1600. Opted to buy an IUR with the money in the meantime.

I think you can get the optic now :)

There's an ACOG TA33 with the 7.62x39 reticle at Calgary Shooting Centre, going for $1389 I believe.

If you're interested in a less expensive option for an optic have a look at the Hi-Lux CMR-AK.

I have one on one of my 300BLK rifles and it's a great optic with features not normally found on optics in this price range. Also has lifetime warranty.

Definitely an interesting option. I've always wanted an ACOG though and I like the TA-33 for its weight, eye relief and clean and simple reticle.
