Colt Canada Modular Railed Rifle

^^ The only downside is that replacing the gas tubes and barrels will be a pain in the f**king ass, but that's a problem for us gun plumbers. And also that the entire receivers will have to be replaced when people will start breaking the handguards, which will happen. 10 ton trucks will keep driving over C7 rifles forever.

Hopefully these will be the new receivers on our new CF C7A3 and C8A4 rifles.

Edit: I like how the picture features an Aimpoint and not an Eotech. I wonder why?

I didn't much care for the IUR because it's basically the antithesis in what I was looking for in an AR configuration - the design felt like a throwback to a time before people actually tried using fully railed uppers and MG heavy barrels and realized how unwieldy they are. But now...

Magpul’s M-Lok attachment system in place of the IUR’s NATO-spec forward railed sections
further weight savings can be realized by opting for a new lightweight barrel profile

OK Now we're talkin'

Before you go "oh hit the gym" try actually handling an SP1. You have no idea what you're missing.

If and when they do release these for sale, I hope they don't mess around with the pricing like they did when the SA15.7 and SA20 first came out or when the first IUR's were released.

For issue rifles I don't see a downside to monolithic guns.

In fact as a guy who never changes his rails, I don't see a downside for me, other than cost.

I see where you're coming from. The downside of the monolith guns IMO is the added difficulty to get at the barrel and gas block for maintenance or what-have-you. Looks like you're stuck with sending it out to an armourer unless you have the specialized tools. Precisely why I ultimately bought the KMR over the URX 4. I greatly value the ability to service my guns myself. For the plain user who is not ''gunsmithing'' oriented I understand my concerns are totally moot.

If they release these guns with a thin (pencil profile please) barrel and weigh-in at the 5 lbs range I will be very pleased. Carbines will be carbines after all.

Why are monolithic uppers considered obsolete? Please educate me.

They are not. The lack of POI shift when fired from support, or when accessories are added/removed can't be argued against. Weight and adaptability were a few of the complaints, but they are getting addressed more and more.

You need a specialized/custom/easy to make barrel socket and pin punch to change barrels, it actually takes less time as you don't have to index the barrel nut.

You don't need a monolithic upper to stay free floated. Kac, hk, bcm makes awesome rails that are not monolithic. So you're telling me that I can't shoot supported with my mr223 without having a poi shift? That's interesting.
