True. But i was referring to stuff like offset mounts.Because then you don't need two different piece designs.
Being Canadian it's pretty hard not to drink the Colt Canada kool aid! They are fairly nice duty rifles. I wouldn't pick one necessarily for three gun or competition. But for patrol or combat they are pretty tough. Plus it's more affordable kook aid than HK!
anyone know if i can send my IUR 15.7" upper to Colt and have them swap the barrel for a 14.5" one?
Calgary Shooting Centre does it, 150$ a hour and about 3 hrs with adding taper pins to the new barrel. Which you'd have to supply or buy from them.

You don't need a monolithic upper to stay free floated. Kac, hk, bcm makes awesome rails that are not monolithic. So you're telling me that I can't shoot supported with my mr223 without having a poi shift? That's interesting.
Yeah but I have to supply my own barrel. I want a genuine Diemaco 14.5" barrel.
Monolithic uppers are a thing of the past.
We did some intensive testing at sig sauer academy during an advanced rifle class 2 years ago. Unless you put exessive weight on your handguard, you will experience slight a shift of POI but its' minimal. Even at 300m which consider to be the max effective range of the AR15. We tested different rifles and to be honest, that's not something to be worried about.
When shooting from a barricade, you aren't putting much weight on your rifle anyways. Monolithic uppers are a thing of the past. But at least, they adopted MLOK so there's still hope.
I like my CC IUR rifles. But I don't mind a bit heavier for the durability. With Police patrol (assault -couldn't resist-) carbines it's better to have something built like a tank as it will take abuse. With firearms not individually issued they really have to be tough.
The barrel and gas block access being a problem isn't specifically a monolithic upper problem. The LMT mrp for instance is also monolithic and you can easily change the barrel yourself. Truth be told I actually prefer my LMT mrp rifles over my Colt C8IUR rifles. LMT also released a slick slided version a few years ago. Not sure if it's mlok or keymod.

you are quite a bit underestimating at 300 meters... by 50%
m4 max effective range of a point target 500 meters
m4 max effective range of an area target 600 meters
an 18 inch barrel will stretch that area target range 20%
20 inch barrel will stretch that area target 30%
And yet, here they are.
Luckily we has consumers have lots of options. If monolithic uppers don't work for a purchaser, there are plenty of quality ARs to chose from. Might not be CC but quality none the less.
Face it, CC is not going to change their manufacturing plans because a few random unidentified folks on an internet forum tell them too. If their customer base demands something else, they will build something else. By customer base I mean large scale LEO & Mil customers.
That being said, I've given up totally trying to guess what CC will come out with next and why. For all I know it could be a dedicated 22 upper and bolt, or 7.62x39 or.......
They're firearms, not battle axes, shoot the person don't beat them with it.
