My SVT wont feed the slightly longer FMJ rounds I have . I have surplus and MFS in FMJ and both jam when trying to chamber a round. The magazine seats well and the mag spring and follower seem ok.
The round nose 180 grain soft points I have feed and shoot well with no issues and they are aprox 1mm shorter in length .

Sounds like it's an issue with the magazine? If you can get someone at your range to lend you their magazine that is known to function properly you should be able to tell.

I will bet that the tip of the bullets are hitting the edge of the chamber and jamming there. The feed ramp is touching the
curvature of the bullet too late to lift it up into the chamber because of the extra long spires of the bullets.

Yes that's exactly whats happening .
I was surprised that the surplus FMJ and MFS FMJ ammo wouldn't feed at all .

Ya my thoughts as well . I will put out a message to see if I can find one to compare .

What I did to allow my magazine to use FMJ, was to build up the feed ramp depth so that the curvature of the bullet
hits the feed ramp sooner and lifts the bullet up that tiny little bit that makes it work.

Some have been soldering a bit of plumbing solder to the feed ramp and sanding it to correct shape.

Or, grind the tips off the bullets. It will take no time as it doesn't have to be precise and won't noticeably affect accuracy.

Here's a picture of my mag feed lip, which was ground asymmetrically at the factory and wouldn't feed spam-can ammo properly from the right column when I got it.

Just file off a bit of the coating at the lip (where it is probably worn down already) to expose bare metal, gently torch-solder on a blob of high-temp solder, and file the blob to shape (you'll remove most of what you added). You can see that I raised the surface on the right. Not much, but just enough to lift the tips over the edge of the breech face. Too much and you'll hang up on the upper face of the chamber.

The rounds shown loaded are dummies with all propellant and primer removed. I marked them light blue and dented in the sides all around to help differentiate them.

I have the issue fixed . A friend MIG welded the lip of the magazine and after I did some filing I now can get the rifle to feed the FMJ and the round nose soft point ammunition .
Thanks for the info guys !
