.270 vs .308 ?

If mostly for deer, then I say .270, as I believe it's little higher velocity and it's a flatter trajectory, so that's better for less guess work on worrying about bullet drop and how much to aim higher, etc... to some extent, anyways. example, sight in at 200 yards or couple inches high at 100 yards.. and less guess work out to 250 yrads... only have to worry about drop as you get out further and adjust accordingly.

It's more than heavy enough to take down a deer.. some use it for moose, as it's all about bullet placement.. It's a good round.

for moose, I like 300 winmag....same... also flatter but with more punch for bigger animal.

x2. A .270Win will take anything on North America with no problems. If going with a .30 Cal. I would lean towards a 30-06 instead of a .308.

Thats good, we need an excuse to buy more rifle's. I also have a 308 and a 308 norma mag. My god! it never ends.

.270 is like a multi bit screwdriver..... great for getting the job done from big to small, but not nearly as fun as collecting a bunch of tailor made for the job rifles.... :)

Sticking just to factory, I'd say the .270's relatives and case length manage alright too,

9.3x62
.35 Whelen
.338-06 A Square
.30-06
.280 Remington
.280 AI
.270 Wincheser
.25-06 Remington

All long action and nothing below a quarter bore :) ..... Some great cals there though, the two aught 6's are a couple of my favourites as well...

I dont know why I'm even debating about long action and short action. I've always been a short action fanatic. lol. Now that I got a kimber ma 270 win and seen the accuracy I've been getting with it, I got kinda side tracked. I know one thing, if kimber chambered the MA in 284win, I know which one I would choose. I do have a montana in 7mm wsm.

My vote is the 270, simply because of the Tikka only coming in long action. Putting a 308win in a LA just seems all wrong to me. I'd go 30-06 and start hunting moose and bear, but that's just me.
