Need help and comments. I have a rem 597 hb with laminated stock problem is wife has taken a liking to it and now considers it hers. Looking at a savage 64 fv sr for my self as as replacement. Just want something cheap. Does a heavy barrel make a real difference when shooting 150-200 yds. What is everyone's opinion on the rifle? Quick answers as one is on sale now!

Honestly I found the 64 FV SR or TR SR ( Boyds Tactical Stock ) not really that accurate. My first 2 shots would group lower then the 3 others. @ 100 I was getting 3" difference in POI between the following 3 shots. I found the 64 a PITA to clean, Coarse, rough machining and bluing was lacking. You could oil a rag and feel it catching up on the roughness. Would leave fibres on the barrel. Trigger was rough 6# and needed a spring kit to make it down to about 4#.

I noticed mine started to rust the next day of buying it new. In a safe with a golden rod. 279 At Cabelas ( Was on sale for 249 ) could get you another Rem 597 HBAR.
