Might have scored an invite to Texas this time next year to help with the hog cull at a friends gi-normus ranch. Apparently the hogs are a real problem and he uses 2 helicopters with 2 shooters each to try and cull the herd a couple of times a year.

If one was to attend such an event what might one show up with, weapon wise, and not look out of place...remember, we're talking 'bout Texas her y'all :). Oh, and there is a border to cross getting there...

Jim
PS I could probably borrow sumpin there if necessary, might be the 'easiest' route :)

I would leave your tools at home.Thy have all the good stuff down there .most likely ar15.or some other neat tools that will do the job better than what you can bring across the border. Have fun . Dutch

They use an assortment of .223s. If there is one there you can use go for it. They will ave a lot of normal capacity mags (20-30) that fit it! A little pre hunt shooting and you are good to go. Have a great time and get a go pro to video it. Keep your safety straps checked and good luck. AJ

I went last year.... It's pretty cheap too.... You do t need to bring a shooting iron thy supply you with an AR..... No much of a "hunt", but a fun experience nonetheless....

I'd look into "borrowing" an AA12 with a few 100rnd drums of buckshot......... It is Texas afterall lol. Or an m60 with mount and a M249 SAW as a back up...............
If I couldn't beg borrow or rent any of the above I'd take an ar15 or any semi auto I could get my hands on, with 30rnd mags of course.

An AR is great but any semi rifle is ok.
1.) Lead from behind, keep the spent casing outside, or at least away from pilot's foot controls and don't shoot the rotors when banking.
2.) Wear a good harness, a sling and old underwear.
3.) Manage your mags so they are controlled and don't fall out or in.
4.) Enjoy the unbelievable hospitality and Post video.

don't shoot the rotors when banking.

:eek::eek::eek:

Maybe its just the safety training but aren't the rotors like super delicate and anything touching them ends in a terrible death for all involved?

I would use a semi- auto shotgun and hevi-shot 2 ball "hog wild", why not, it patterns well. I seriously considered shooting a deer with it this year. If not that some 00 buck. While we're dreaming it would be equipped with a 2 moa reflex sight. I bet a lever action or pump rifle would be fun too.

Yep. The heli-hunt is pretty much over at the speed of light, if you shoot the rotor blades.

I think they use S/G in helos in Aus/New Zealand. I guess you just get closer and fly slower.

Honestly I think an sks would work slick. Don't have to worry about loosing mags or not having enough mags. 7.62x39mm fmj is deadly on this size game as we'll. mine sends all the bullets under the dot with a bushnell trs 25... Even when smoking hot.

An sks would work fine, as long as you have a case deflector to prevent the casing from going UP INTO THE ROTORS!!!

I'd go with the AR15 & regular capacity mags...

Cheers
