I was wondering if there are any credible ways to remove lead from your body. I did some googling and everything I found was chicken bone homeopathic remedies that I don't trust. I don't mind anecdotal evidence when it comes to tightening up my groups on the range but for medical decisions I like legit facts lol

I would go to a doctor and have it surgically removed...how many times were you shot?Laugh2

So you come to an internet forum for answers? That's the funniest thing I've read in a long time. :HR: :slap:Laugh2

If you want "legit facts", how about you go talk to a medical professional, you know...a doctor?

I've done a fair bit of research into lead poisoning and the following is what I've surmised....

Once it is in the bones it will stay there for a long time....like about 10 years. It is liberated very slowly.

In the soft tissues of the body, the main way it is removed is through urination and elimination....aside from chelation therapy that is. Chelation therapy however is reserved for only high levels of poisoning from what I've read.

I drink lots of water which I think helps, but the most frequent recommendation I've come across to reduce lead levels is to completely avoid the source. If you can't, there is a lot of information on the internet containing tips to reduce or minimize exposure. About 2 years ago I started getting my lead levels tested after realizing it can be particularly dangerous for young kids....now I try to follow some basic rules when exposure occurs

Considering we are in the bullet making forum....I think you'd want to take extra special precautions. Poisoning is very likely if PPE isn't worn. Gloves, mask and a thorough cleaning procedure....especially so if you are casting indoors.

Some people amaze me. It was a serious question, if you think it's dumb is it that hard to keep scrolling? There is a wealth of knowledge here, or so I thought. Could I pester a doctor? Absolutely, but why would I bog down the health care system when surely someone here has already been there and done that

You won't know if you have a lead problem without "bogging down the health system", but if you prefer to assume that you do, the most practical approach is to stop the introduction of new lead and then wait - time eliminates lead.

Food grade Diatomaceous earth and Alpha Lypoic acid are both recommended for elimination of heavy metals in the body. Of course eliminating introduction of new lead is also very important for that I use Dlead wipes and soap from Brownells and have stopped shooting indoors. BLL was cut down in over 1/2 in 6 months.

^^^ There is one range in Ottawa that is in a serious situation with the air handling system being in poor condition leading to many members with elevated levels, several have had to stay away for long periods or quit shooting all together.

You're right, it was a serious question and a good one too! I was just having a little fun. I learned something about lead contamination to the human body that I new very little about previously from some of the great replies you received. Thanks for bringing up this topic!

As has been said prevention through PPE and non exposure are the best ways but chelation therapy will treat lead problems in the body. I would think lots of water and fluids would help flush too. I think cilantro was being studied to help get rid of lead in the body naturally as well.

Interesting thread! I think many of the replies so far go a long way towards helping the situation even if they may seem "naturopathic"
in content. I tend to view therapeutic chelation treatments offered in a store front setting, as being questionable but it seems to hold
the most promise for attracting and flushing heavy metal contaminations like mercury, lead and cadmium - if it is done with an actual binding
attractant. This is something to be pursued by us with our high lead exposure because it is unlikely that mainstream medical science with
it's focus on treating symptoms, will pursue preventative therapies.

RA center ?

Alpha lipoic acid is a supplement that also chelates. I am not sure why people think that naturopathic is nonsense. This is a compound that probably everyone should take anyway.
