I have used the interlock on moose deer and black bear with the 30-30.
Over the years I have used a variety of loads 1900 to 2000fps .
In particular my rifle likes H4895 28 grains gave me 1960fps under a 170 grain interlock, and Varget at 32 grains under a 170 grain Interlock gives me 2050fps.
In my rifle at least, the 30-30 isn't particular, just about any powder listed for it works well.

I really don't think there is game out there that will tell the difference between those two bullets, so for me it would come down to which I could get for a better price and which my gun shot the most accurately. Either way, I think you will have a champ.

For powder try LEVERevolution. It is normally easy to find now a days and you get a 200fps boost over almost all other powders. I found it to be a real winner.

What are the pressures on that recipe. I'm running a Savage 340 bolt gun so I am sensitive to pressure.

This!! I am using Leverevolution behind the 170 grain bullets in a 20" Marlin and a 24" Marlin.

The velocities are very good. 2250 in the short barrel, around 2370 in the 24"

Also have tried it with the 160 FTX. Accuracy was good with all bullets...as good as can be expected from these lever actions.

Regards, Dave.

Your savage 340 bolt gun is a substantially stronger action than any of the lever action 30-30s and you can safely shoot anything that any lever 30-30 shoots. Really.

Shot lots of moose/deer + bear with a 170gr Hornady /Fed or Win brass/Fed mag primer a dose of 32gr of Win 748.............34.5gr of the same is the ticket for the 150gr bullet............Harold
