Not everyone wants souvenirs

Rather as poignant letter to the mother of a deceased RCAF Pilot Officer...Makes me wonder what happened to him and how she felt about getting this letter regarding his revolver..

Well its written in ink below
That next of kin showed and advised that the revolver was not wanted by her and not to send it.
Looks like it was destroyed.
Orrrr.......someone way back when said, "Oh score I got a free S&W revolver".

The following is the entry from the book "They shall grow not old"

Rouleau, David Francis P/O(P) J15348. From Ottawa Ont. Killed in Action. June3/42 age 24. #131 Squadron (Invicta). Spitfire aircraft missing between Pantelldria and Malta. P/O Rouleau has no known grave. His name is inscribed on the Malta War Memorial. Malta.

This book was published as a memorial to all those Canadians who took part in the air war 1939-1945. It contains a short biography of the over 18,000 Canadian airmen, airwomen and other nationals wearing the uniform of the RCAF, who lost their lives between September 3 1939 and August 12 1945.

Anyone interested in researching a fallen airman can send me a PM.

Following on from this I looked up 'Sniper of the Skies'. The story of George "Screwball' Buerling. A paragraph in the book states..:-

On 3rd June, Operation Style saw thirty two Spitfires take off from HMS Eagle heading for Malta. One flight was led by 249 Squadron's Pilot Officer J.A. Plagis, while two other Malta veterans had also been flown out as flight leaders.
The enemy had followed the Spitfire's progress and they were intercepted by a dozen Bf 109's from II / JG53. Despite cover provided by 249 and 601 Squadrons, four Spitfires were shot down. Two crashed near Gozo and another two near Pantelleria. One of the pilots was seen in the water by 249 Squadron's F/O W.R. Daddo Langlois who circled for an hour, but no rescue launch came....

One of these pilots was David Francis Rouleau....

That letter was dated two days after the day that I was born.

Here he is - http://twgpp.org/information.php?id=730584
