New rifle suggestion.

Well the 30-06 isn't a shy puppy... Between the 300 WSM and the 300 WM. There isn't a hole lot of difference in performance. Either / or is fine. Now going up in caliber is another option that is a tad more interesting in itself. The 9.3 is on my New Years resolution list, and I would select that over a 338 WM. The 9.3 charms an interest due to being a variant of the 30-06 case, which can be necked up to a 32-06; 338-06, 35 Whelen and the 9.3 mm. All of them are great preformers and obtain decent ballistics out of the parent case.

the 9.3x62 is not a 30-06 variant case. you can use 30-06 brass to create 9.3x62 but they are different.

Well, think for now, will stick with my 06 carbon stalker, talley lightweights and Zeiss Conquest. It's a joy to carry and shoulder and so far the 06 has handily dispatched several moose and a couple bison. Seasons greetings!

I would have to disagree with the less recoil for wsm. I shoot a xbolt 300wm and a friend of mine shoots a tikka t3 lite in 300wsm, and let me tell you it kicks the s*** out of the shooter. I suppose with handloads you could tame it down a little bit. Not sure if you handload or not, but ammo availability might become an issue if you head out to remote areas.

I would look into the xbolt line of rifles, nothing wrong with the tikka t3 lite series just they seem like they have a cheap stock to me. As man others have said 30-06 will put anything down in North America. If you want something with a little more umph id say 300 wm or 338 wm(A 338 might be a little rough if recoil is a concern though aswell)

Good Luck lol Lots of good advice being thrown your way

Didn't take long for me to choose between the two although I have had four different 9.3 X 62s ( still have the Whelen ! ).

I picked up the only;) .366 Wagner, I have a while back. An 'inexpensive' Zastava

And with the initial accuracy,

it's unlikely I'll even think about getting another in that calibre.;) Little need.
Thought about a Whelen but that calibre nitch is already 'sort of' filled by:da pair of 358 Norma Magnums, a model 1651 Husqvarna and a model 68DL Schultz & Larsen.

:redface:that aren't getting used enough.

One thing you didn't mention is if you handload or not. If you don't handload, be prepared to pay a premium for ammo unless you are 30-06, .308 Win and other common calibers. Not an issue if you only fire a box of ammo every year, but an issue if you want to have fun with your rifle and shoot it more often. I imagine that the WSM ammo is more expensive. The magnum stuff definitely is. 30-06 is really the best of all worlds if you don't handload. I would check the ammo out at Sportslodge and see what they are charging before settling on a new caliber if you don't handload.

Get a 375 hh....then a twilled coat...tilley hat....range rover.... Im getting one this year...the hat...ok and the gun

If only one... I would probably go .300 WM. Even over the WSM for a variety of reasons that I an sure have been covered (although I haven't read this thread).

I agree. But;), keeping in mind that much of what I have calibre wise is just off of the side of centre or the beaten path so to speak. I gave this

model 70 to my buddy. 'Things' were a little tight for him at the time, he wanted a decent Moose rifle and, I had recently obtained this Schultz & Larsen;), in 308 Norma Magnum.

Saw that one before... gorgeous rifle... you're a good buddy, Johnn.

Johnn is a credit to this little community, luckily he is in good company with many others here. I tip my hat to you Johnn.

That rifle was only intended for the NL market, better tell your buddy to ship it east STAT.

I believe i have given you some compliments on that rifle before, and I will continue to do so every time you so graciously share the images.

Seasons Greetings all...
