hey guys,

Looking at building a x39 AR and was wondering what mag options are out there. Unless I'm mistaken the only mag currently on the market is the c products XCR 10-round pistol mag?

Thanks!

Armalite makes a 5/30 banana mag that fits the STANAG magwell which will feed a full 30 rounds reliably into an AR. Not that we need a mag that can do that here in Canada but it would be nice to know that your magazine is actually designed to run the cartridges you're feeding into it. The x39 has too much taper to feed correctly from a straight magazine like the standard AR magazine.
The XCR pistol mags are hit and miss with feeding reliability from what I've read. Some guys have no problems at all and others have nothing but problems.

If you want an AR type rifle in 7.62x39 your best option is the CMMG Mutant.

I run XCR's 10 rounders in my Windham 7.62x39, at first they were a bit harder to load to the max and wouldn't feed 100% but by running them & breaking them in all issues went away. Each mag took 2-3 cycles to break-in, I now have 100% reliability. I wouldn't mind to pick up a couple of bananas if I knew where and if they weren't worth arm&leg.

Wolverine used to sell the x39 AR's that came with those mags but they don't have them on their site anymore. They may be able to order them for you if you contact them and ask.

Good to know. I ordered some for my new Windham when it shows up.
