I'm looking to turn down a thick 10/22 barrel. I'm wondering anyone in GTA that has a lathe. Any advice when turning down a barrel? The barrel is a dlask 8" stainless bull barrel. It's diameter is 0.920. It's a lot thicker than what it needs to be. Whats the minimum diameter for the 22lr?

Smallest barrel diameter I've seen on a .22 is the Ruger 22/45 Lite, which is about .325"

Is it a weight thing ??

If it's a weight thing, and you really don't want to just buy a lighter barrel (or trade), why not consider fluting it? Or spiral fluting it? At least then you're spending your money on a finished product that looks like you spent money on it... As opposed to spending a few hundred bucks to make a $400 barrel look like a $200 barrel.

What kodiakjack said…and if/when you decided to sell it I'm sure it would be easier to sell to the "kook-stuff" buyers….
Either way I would contact Casey (TacOrd)

Be careful to leave the Dlask 8" stamp on the barrel, it could be asserted by the crown that you took a factory barrel and shortened it to 8" then turned it which would be illegal as opposed to a barrel made that way by a manufacturer like Dlask. I know you are legal in your quest but you will not be able to prove how the barrel started after you remove the stamps. As for thickness, I have a 30-06 with a barrel wall thinner than many .22 I have seen and it does fine, heats up very quickly tho and accuracy suffers after a few rounds.

this would be kind of nice...

I have never seen a short shotgun barrel with the length stamped on it.
Brings up a good point.

Good point, you couldn't really prove it either way.

It would look funny if you only turned down the front 6". Selling it is looking good, you could get a carbon fiber charger:

Easy enough to leave the breech full diameter and taper toward the muzzle - most barrels are contoured this way.
Turning 6" of taper wouldn't take half an hour, including setup.
