Not so familiar with the different 3 gun rules locally especially in Ontario. My inquiries is more on my equipments/ firearms in hand. Maybe somebody can help me figure to which division I can shoot or qualify.
My AR is equip with a variable scope, My Shogun is a standard, to make it worse my Pistol is an Open gun, In the states I will classified in the open, but how about in Canada? Want to stay with my equipment for now, for money sake, My best alternative is just to get a 1911 so I can shoot in the standard. Your opinion is highly wanted. Thanks, now pls don't tell to convert my SG to open, want to keep it standard for IPSC šŸ˜Ž

There are no official 3 gun rules in Canada.

It all depends on the club / match / league that you decide to shoot with.
Pick an area you plan to shoot at and someone local to that will lay it out for you...

Around here that pistol drops you into open. There is usually 40 to 60 shooters in a match max around here. I would just shoot and not worry about class. There is usually like 5 guys in open maybe 5 in Irons everyone else in tac ops. Just shoot and look at the overall results. The game is not big enough here to worry about class.

I'm not really worried about the results, don't really expect to win or anything, I just don't want to drive for match just to find out I can't shoot the match because my equipment is all over the place,"division wise". But thanks to all your inputs, guess will ask first the organizers before driving

Some clubs maybe a little finicky if you show up with a race holster..best to check before hand. That'd be the only problem I can forsee....other than that, you'll almost always fit in a division

So I can otherwise modify my pistol (magwell, upgraded iron sights, internal polishing/ drop-in trigger modification, magazine base plates) as long as the only firearm that sports an optic is my rifle?

Yep. But like chalk said, in SW Ontario, 3gun divisions are not something to really worry too much about - regardless of your division you will be able to see how you stack up against shooters in your division as well as overall. In almost every multigun event I've been to in this area, the tac ops shooters beat the open shooters; you are probably more likely to have a top 3 finish in Open division by virtue of the fact that there may only be 3 people shooting Open in any given match :d

If you want to take a peak at how we decide divisions at Galt, here is a link to the rules that we shamlessly ripped off from the Team Hoser crew (who probably shamlessly ripped them off from someone else ;) )
