Hi guys, where I could buy some these brass? I have been saving, but not sure if it would be enough. I have about 100-200 each right now and think I will shot between 50-100 per range session. how many would you normally keep, assuming you only can buy, not having plenty from range pickup. Thanks!

Personally I never set a limit on how much brass to buy. If I see brass for sale in the EE that's the right price I buy it whether I need it or not...maybe that's why I have close to 3500 pieces of 44 mag brass. Oh and I rarely buy new brass, all once fired off of the EE.

X-Reload has brand new albeit pricey Starline brass. All my .44mag brass came from factory ammo.
So far the Federal stuff has held up surprisingly well with some of it having been loaded 10 times to date.
My Starline brass came from HSM ammo, so if you can find it, buy it.
As far as how much to have on hand, I try to keep enough for 3-4 sessions in case I can't find time or components to reload.

It's still usually cheaper to buy good quality factory loaded rounds and then re use the brass. Brass is the most expensive part of the reloading cycle if you buy it new. That said, Budget also sells starline brass

Best price for Starline brass is Prophet River. They're avg $10 cheaper than anyone else per 100. and they have no tax and free shipping over $100 for Boxing week.

thanks! Prophet River is the cheapest. Too bad they don't have starline 44mag brass right now(hornady is so expensive), but 357mag brass is good price.

this usually was true, but the 357/44mag ammo I have been looking at lately are all quitely expensive(357 is around 60cents/rd, 44 is around 90cents/rd for reloaded. over $1/rd for factory). the starline 357 is like 21cents. so, buying brass is cheaper now.
Then, in my club, most people who shot factory don't reload. So, I just ask them and they are all quite nice and would give them to me. That's how I get 223 357mag and 99 44mag so far in the past a few months. If I only shoot 50/session, it should be enough for now, but always it's the more the better. :)

Last I checked .44 mag was around $1.20/round and brass was around $.40/each. Jacketed bullets go for around $.40/each at their cheapest, a primer is $.05, and the powder charge may be $.10 in powder. So you're still saving ~$.25/round and that's if you are shooting jacketed bullets. Plated or cast will make it even cheaper.

Why not shoot 38 spl instead of 357mag? The last batch of 357 I reloaded took 4x the amt of powder of the current 38 spl I'm reloading. Be it, it 2 different powders. But 38spl brass is way cheaper and way more available.

I've found once-fired .357 mag brass easier to find and usually the same price as .38 special. The loaded ammo is quite different in price though.
I load everything in the longer brass and keep them in labelled boxes. .44 special data in .44 mag brass or .38 special data in .357 mag brass. Keeps the dirt rings from forming in the cylinders too.

There's a good deal on .357 brass and a couple hundred projectiles, on the EE. Never mind, that's gone already...

I would like to get used to all the popular recoil. shot 38spl before and it felt like 9mm. so, don't need to do it often and thus don't need to reload. if comes to it, just buy 1 or 2 boxes from now and then. it's not that expensive anyway. 357mag is different story in terms of recoil and price.

budget's price is good, just the shipping to Ontario is a problem. will ask Henry on the 44spl as that's the only place I can see it right now. as for 357mag, prophet river has the best deal so far, maybe 44mag as well once it's in stock. hopefully they can bring in 44spl as well.

Just got 44 mag and 44 special starline brass from budget shooter supply a couple weeks ago

I got 200rds each of 44mag and special, 3lbs of powder and some bullets, and shipping to Ont. came to $28
