Think.

I bought a defected scope out of the box (Vortex claimed I tightened the rings, maybe it was used before and I didnt know it, still full cover by warranty anyway plus I torque anything that calls for it on my firearms)

I send them a Viper 3.5 - 10 x 50 , they send me back a 4 - 12 x 40, the new 50 mm obj dont come in that power anymore, they only come in 6.5-20 , so when I called them to remind them that I have a sunshade (Vortex, 50 bucks) And had got TWO sets of rings or it (Burris 70 bucks for each set) and scope covers they came back with the offer of sending me a used model the same as my old one. (Mine is older, lacks side parallax adjustment)

Is this really a "VIP warranty"? That since they dont make it in my magnification anymore, I need to downgrade and buy a third set of rings for one Vortex scope I bought, plus need to buy a new sunshade and new scope cover? plus 2 x shipping = 50 bucks.

OR get a used scope from them .I have a huge problem with this as if this one breaks, at THAT time I will again go through the same problem..... Also I paid 600 dollars a year and a half ago for a brand new scope, to me, replacing that with a used scope just isnt impressive to me.

Just looking to see what you guys think about the situation, not opinions on 50 mm scopes(I got it for the look, there, happy? And I PAID for that look) with one inch tubes or sunshades, just am I wrong in thinking that the warranty is not as impressive as I was to believe? I could have got a nice leupold for that much , or 2 red fields and seemingly have a better warranty.

Edit: Forgot to mention, used scope is coming from the states

personally I would not accept any thing but a new replacement or the optic I sent in fully repaired. A used returned optic would be out of the question of me.

I would also consider a full refund as well

Thats my thinking, they want me to pay the difference on my scope, to the NEW 50mm obj, or take a used scope without paying ME any difference, I wanted to post this just because I hear nothing but great things about Vortex warranty so I bought from their Viper line, and now I have to deal with this.

So you sent them a 'used' scope and they want to send you a 'used' scope. If they repair yours it's still used. Whats the problem??

I have never heard of a "top of the line" warranty replacing a BRAND NEW SCOPE, with a used scope. You gotta read my first line , did not work out of the box. IF I wanted a used scope, I would have paid a lot less for it to begin with. Also, if this used replacement bunks out then what? THEN I need to downgrade and buy new hardware for my scope because they dont have anymore discontinued used scopes to send me?

I have ever had any issues with them.i was just at the warehouse in Guelph yesterday and exchanged My scope no questions asked.same problem crushed tube but everything was torqued correctly.

Why didn't you just return the scope to the retailer you bought it from? It was brand new in box so a refund would have been easy.

I moved from Cold Lake AB back to Vancouver BC a week after buying it, without ever mounting it till I got here. And that was KEY to me buying a scope with a great warranty, I knew I was moving (Just didnt know when)So I would not have to go back to the store with it, I could deal with Vortex directly (lots of Warranties are in your hands anyway)

Trust me , if I could do it all again , I would have walked into wanstalls and bought it there.

But to me, I just dont see leupold sending you a smaller scope, or a used scope for warranty replacement,

Vortex banks on you USING their warranty, sometimes (like me) more than once. It's part of their business model. They are priced accordingly.

Other companies like Leica, Nightforce, Leupold - they make a higher quality product so you don't NEED their warranty. It's a different business model.

Personally, I prefer the warranties you never need to use.

Did anyone look up the definition of the word ......... "vortex"?

I sure don't have any taste buds for expanding my scope brands.
Prime example right here.

Just me, but I think you're being treated quite fairly. The product you bought isn't made anymore. They offered to replace your scope, damaged maybe by them or maybe by you, with closest-available new scope (right?). You purchased 50mm sunshades from them which will now be useless. Did they offer to replace your shades also with the correct 40mm ones? You said you can't use your expensive ring sets; Now they're really looking for some way to get you back into that scope. So they offer what they can - a refurbished unit *with* a parallax knob that yours doesn't have. So an upgrade, and you can keep using your shades and rings. I see that you haven't used the scope but to them they see it's been sold 18 months ago and comes back now with a (claimed) crushed tube. But they're still trying to warranty it.

You can't worry about "what happens if it breaks again". If it does, deal with it then. The product was phased out but still supported by the manufacturer. A good buddy & shop owner put a $2200 remanufactured steering rack into a customers Volkswagen Toureg 2 years ago. Thing failed last month. Rack has a 3 year warranty. He went to return it - rebuilding company has folded. That's a raw deal.

Hi there I am new here . I went through the same thing , brought my vortex viper PST ebr-2c back to A store in Edmonton were I purchased it , told them a black dot appeared in the glass near the reticle . The one guy behind the counter told me we will have to send it away . I said it's a week old I bought it here a week ago . I want another , he shows up with a demo cause I recognized the sticker on the turret , so I told him that's a demo can I get a new one that's what I payed for . He says that's all we got left so I said ok may I just have my money back , he then says read your receipt no refunds on optics . I said well placing the refund policy on the receipt is not the right place , we don't get to read the receipt prior to purchasing .

I have used Leupold warranty several times, even once where damage was my fault. All good. Last year had some issues with Korth, won't buy another one. If scope is discontinued it was probably old stock, maybe real old. No box?? May have been returned to dealer damaged by first customer, then resold to you. I think Vortex is being fair, but that being said I think Vortex should buck up and give you the next better model. Little cost to them. Be damn glad you didn't get a Bushnel.

So much for the plethora of praise for Vortex. I would be extremely displeased in your situation.

Its why I keep checking this post, my goal isnt to really diminish their warranty, the ladies on the phone I dealt with were polite and nice, they DID send me back a replacement really quick and all I had to do was print and fill out one short form and spend the 20 bucks or so for shipping.

In my eyes, a brand new 50 mm scope, gets a brand new 50 mm scope, its not my fault they discontinued it, now they are closed tomorow, will 100% let anyone who gives a #### know the outcome of all this

The key to a good warranty is replacement, or better, if I was ok with getting a used scope back, I would have bought a used one in the first place, here is my big problem with it, my NON parallax scope was STILL more expensive then this one they gave me, call it an upgrade, I dont really care as its going on a long range rifle. It is not my fault they dont carry the model anymore, I got Vortex for the "VIP warranty" Specifically a Viper for that reason.

They want ME to pay the difference on a better scope, yet offer me no money back on a used scope or a lower model (I'd say knock 100 to 200 off yeah?) and if I said "Expensive ring sets" Sorry, I think I said they were 70 a set, midway price, but high quality, I KNOW I willl need mids for a 40 mm so it will be the third set for one scope purchase :D They said nothing about replacing any other purchases for it, no do I want them too , I have the rings I want, I bought the size scope I want.

In the end , I am probably going to have to take the used one (Then tube crush the #### out of it, send it in, see if they send me another 40, kidding) Their warranty doesnt stipulate I will get a brand new scope, but sending me a used one from the states? Just sits wrong with me. Scopes have a life none last forever, I dont want someone elses abused property without at least looking at it first. Guns and everything on them take some form of abuse everytime you pull that trigger)

I once bought an old leupold that turned out to be messed up.
Sent it in to korth , they get back to me saying they can't fix it and it is no longer made.
They gave me my choice of several brand new scopes and shipped me the one I chose all for free.
I ended up with a brand new $800 scope replacing a used $200 scope.
