Dealing with VORTEX Warranty has so far been a hassle, please let me know what you...

My $.02;

You sent them a used scope (once purchased from retailer, it becomes a used item, regardless of what it is or if you ever use it). This was either defective or improperly mounted. No point in arguing that with them.

It seems they can't fix your scope, so they're offering you the same scope with updates (side parallax) that's also been fixed. This would be the same as getting your scope back repaired,no?
Where's the issue?

When you discontinue a scope covered by a lifetime warranty , you replace it with the next compatible or higher end model. You don't replace with a lower priced or lower end one. Otherwise, your warranty isn't worth sh*t.the abnormally high number of people praising vortex warranty sets off alarm bells for me . Perhaps they are really just selling a warranty as opposed to decent glass.

A good lesson here when sending any scope for warranty, is to let them know to contact the owner before making any swaps, if an exact replacement is not possible.

Obviously, since they don't make your scope anymore, you bought "new" old stock that might have been sitting at that store a long time. Impulse buys can be a recipe for disaster.

Regarding the initial purchase price of the original scope:

Are they responsible for that, or are they responsible for the MSRP? I know prices vary pretty wildly, depending on the store.

Even then, it depends on where you bought the Leupold. Buying from EE or Bass Pro could force you to export it to the US for service, if it didn't come from one of Korth's "authorized dealers" (kind of childish, if you ask me... not like they aren't getting paid for doing the warranty work).

Vortex banks on you USING their warranty, sometimes (like me) more than once. It's part of their business model. They are priced accordingly.

Other companies like Leica, Nightforce, Leupold - they make a higher quality product so you don't NEED their warranty. It's a different business model.

Personally, I prefer the warranties you never need to use.

Precisely why I opted for a Nikon. Not only that, if something does go wrong, I need only take it back to the store.

This is an eye opener. Nothing turns me off a company quicker than hearing stories like this. I don't have the patience for this kind of warantee bull#### in my life right now.

Ive got a Nikon in for warranty service. Sent it in about 2 weeks ago.

Just got an email telling me the warranty claim was approved, and they're replacing the scope.

So far so good, I guess!

Don't know what they are like now but I had an absolute horror show with Nikon warranty on a set of binocs.

Used Leupold warranty (korth) several times with no issues and great service.

Used Leica warranty on a rangefinder and it was a lot of back and forth but after months of back and forth it worked out OK.

I have never heard of a "top of the line" warranty replacing a BRAND NEW SCOPE, with a used scope. You gotta read my first line , did not work out of the box. IF I wanted a used scope, I would have paid a lot less for it to begin with. Also, if this used replacement bunks out then what? THEN I need to downgrade and buy new hardware for my scope because they dont have anymore discontinued used scopes to send me?

How did it take a year and a half to get this point if it didn't work out of the box?

My experience with Sightron has been positive. I recently purchased a new scope from a well known trade CGNer, and the reticle did not illuminate. I was asked to send the scope to the distributor (another well known trade CGNer) who confirmed that they would replace it, but were awaiting a delivery. A week later a new scope was dispatched, complete with a 'flak jacket'.

I would definitely buy a Sightron again based on this approach to warranty issues.

Candocad.

Not sure if OP knew the scope purchased was discontinued? In any case, options were provided to you and not sure what's missing?

I just recently received a replacement to HST 6-24x50. Took 4 weeks round trip.

My sentiments exactly. I don't hear a lot of complaints on Leopolds warranty as I suspect most leupold owners rarely have occasion to use it. I've literally owned dozens of Leopolds (and a few Redfields) over the years and have yet to have a problem with any. I know several people that cannot say the same for their Vortex products.

+1

If vortex can't replace it with the same then they should upgrade his scope, period. Any reputable company would do this.

Correct you are, let everyone read this comment again! lol , that's what it was right? In the oil field, I knew enough about vortex, just not the exact model of scope :D

interesting question, but not really a matter when it comes to the warranty, BUT, I work, and for about year I was working an outrageous amount of hours , I just didnt get to shoot , I picked up a raging bull and didnt get to shoot it for 7 months
