Dealing with VORTEX Warranty has so far been a hassle, please let me know what you...

When it comes to vortex optics are their scope tubes just not very strong or is this whole "crushed scope tube" thing just a catch all for multiple problems ?

I could swear I've read multiple people in this thread alone claiming their vortex scope was sent back due to a crushed tube, yet have never heard that regarding any other brand before ?

I've installed a few scopes and can say I've never crushed or bent one before, maybe mine aren't on tight enough, they're supposed to slide a bit back and forth during recoil...right :p

I have bought 15 vortex scopes.... I will give you my honest opinion here.....

I finally had one fail out of the box, unfortunately....

It was a cheap crossfire II i put on a .30-06 while waiting for what I wanted, and the guts failed.... rattled in the scope after two shots.....

When i sent it back, they told me I had overtourqued the rings and had bent the tube.... I use a torque screwdriver on all of my installs and I am an engineer, so my screwdriver is in the $300 range... worth more than the scope.... After what they told me, I recalibrated my driver and it was bang on..... personally, I felt they were after brownie points and they made me feel like they were doing me a favour replacing my gear..... but I will give them kudos for standing by their warranty....

That being said, I got a new scope at my door in less than two weeks with excellent communication along the way..... so I guess its a toss up.... I have had nothing but satisfaction with the other scopes from them that I have owned..... and have taken many game animals with them.... but, at the same time, I know I didn't overtorque those rings....

Take it as you will... great experience with them, and the price point has been awesome for what they have delivered..... but my new rifle (that I don't have time to screw around with based on and upcoming hunt), will have a Zeiss on it......

I hope you emailed a picture of your work bench complete with the $300 torque driver....... I'd love to hear their reply.

I have 2 vortex's. A Viper PST 6-24x50 which is a tank and a Crossfire II 4-12x50 which is the one I sent for warranty with the crushed tube. The quality difference is obvious but the Viper was 4 times the price of the Crossfire. The Crossfire tube feels thin and tinny while the Viper tube is thick.

I bought a Viper PST, nice scope and all. But then sent it back for a full refund and got a Sightron 2.5-17.5-56 STAC. I could instantly feel the difference. The tubes on Vortex aren't that thick. Even my Bushnell Elite 5-15-40 feels like a tank compared to Vortex. I had a 4-16-44 HS vortex and the same thing. I think they are trying to save money on Aluminium costs. And my PST came with a warning in red saying do not tighten scope past 18 inch lbs.

I've never had an issue with Vortex. Had two red dots crap out, both on a shotgun, over the counter replacement. Lost a battery cover recently, called them to see if I could source one locally, they sent me two. No charge. I have a few PSTs and a Razor, no issues with those, at all. and I always tighten my scopes past 18"#s.

Good trade. Back to the topic lol sorry getting off track. I am putting a vortex viper HST 4-16x44 on my sendero sf ii. Chose vortex due to the great reviews and their warranty. This is the first place I'm reading about a negative comment on their warranty. Let's hope the viper can stand up to the test so I don't have to try the warranty.

Mine is a Wiha..... Nice piece of kit..... And likely not something I would buy for myself......

Anyways, further to the topic..... I have a viper pst in 1.5-4x on my scout..... Illuminated reticle has quit on me... Let's see what happens.....

I had a Vortex Diamondback and sold it off, as it had some optical issues that bugged me. Nothing was really wrong with it, I'm just liking the higher quality glass now that I have some experience with it.
That said, the higher end Vortex products seem to be good. Viper and up in the scope line seem to compare well with the competition. I also like their Razor series binos, don't have a pair, but compared them with the Zeiss Conquest and they were better.

Just a note on their warranty. I sent in a Viper 2.5-10x44 last Monday because the magnification dial was a bit to stiff. Friday I get a package in the mail and instead of fixing the problem like they had said in laid the box was a brand new Viper. All done within a week door to door, hard to complain about that especially since the old scope was still in good condition.

I had the same experience. I sent my StrikeFire red dot in as the on/off button had failed. Within 10 days Vortex Canada sent me a BNIB SrikeFire with the updated mounts. I was impressed.

Everyone keeps saying negative. In the end. They just inconconvienced me. I was given a scope of equal value.

What to take home from this is that if your scope is discontinued , they don't care what size you have , you are getting a model of equal price. Otherwise the warranty was fine.

I bought a brand new crossfire II 6-24x50 which rattled and wouldn't stay in focus after 3 range trips on top of a .223
Brought it back to the store I bought it from and upgraded to a Viper 6-20x50... Brought it home to find that the reticle wire was broken...
The store said that they didn't have a replacement so I sent it for "Warranty Work"...
$800 + tax and I'm sending it for Warranty before ever mounting it...

I'm a little discouraged...
Let's see what happens.

I will say this, I have owned 15 plus vortex scopes.....non issues until about a year ago...... The cheap crossfire II I tossed in my 700 as a place holder failed in two shots.... My exonsive viper pst in 1.5 - 4 has lost illumination....... But I took my deer without it (not what I bought the scope for)......

I am sure they will come clean on this, but i don't want a scope that will fail on me when I need it most...... Have my doubts....

I am the OP, this is the bottom line.

Basically, they stopped selling the cheaper 50mm viper, I paid 550 for it, their msrp is 399, the one they sent me has an msrp of 389. the next cheapest viper 50 mm has an msrp of 599 now(They discontinued the cheaper one), they offered to let me pay the difference or take the smaller scope. I know one thing 100% , I will never ever buy a 30mm tube from Vortex, could you imagine getting a 1 inch tube back because they discontinued it and the next 30mm tube is way more expensive.

I am the OP and will still buy vortex! Just going to be careful of my purchases from here on out.

Not saying there is here but it almost seems like there is a missing element to this story...
I would email them a link to this thread if you are unable to get this rectified over the phone. I sent an email to Vortex explaining that i had lost my "zero-ish stop" shim kit. They sent me a new shim kit pkg with a hat & sticker. You cant get blood from a stone either...if they dont make your scope anymore perhaps they were just trying to get you shooting sooner with a replacement unit, opposed to you waiting for repair work? Dunno, doesnt sound like the Vortex that any of my clan have dealt with.
Maybe pour a good single malt and give them another call, humbly.
Jim

Which is more money?
The upgrade or rings, covers and a sunshade?
