Hello people, happy new year to you all!
Got may hands on a 30-06 Sako AV with a weird 19" barrel and was wondering if anyone ever heard of that. I know that Sako made the AV Battue with 19 1/4" barrel but this one is not a Battue (at least that's what I think!). Did some research but can't find anything. The sights that came with the rifle, are Williams. My guess is that the barrel has been cut, maybe for hunting purpose, I don't know. Crown is, well, flat....but doing my research, I found out that mine is not the only one like that, some are even factory. I haven't shot it yet being that I bought it last night. And my thought on the sights, is that, originally, the rifle probably didn't have any sights.... Anyone got an idea, model, year etc?? Hesitated on buying it but it's in pretty good shape..:) Thank-you!!

I have an identical one. 19" barrel, oil finish, flat crown, but in 270 win wearing a limbsaver pad
My plan is to rebarrel it as I don't have a use for a short 270. But it prob won't happen...
Nice gun congrats on the purchase.

As much as I hate to butcher a rifle in that kind of condition, you could send it to someone to have it rebored to 9.3x62. It would make a fine 366 Wagner and already comes with nice irons and a rugged scope mounting system.

Look up "Sako Handy Rifle" as that describes the model you have. The flat crown is standard for AVs of that era, so I'd get you're rifle is in it's original condition. The only thing that may be missing is the hood for the front. Nice rifle... I'd certainly prefer the 30-06 over the 270 in that short barrel, but both are going to bark. There was/is another Sako Handy in 7RM on another site, which seems like an ill-suited pairing.

Nice one you got there too! Thanks

Did you find that in your own stuff? Geeez is it me or what? I looked all around the internet and never found that! Thanks....now I feel a bit bad. I had the seller drop the price cause I told him I thought the barrel had been cut!lol Was a fast buy, didn't have time to check things out!! Thanks a lot!
