Enough is enough?

Last yote I shot was with a 22 Short in an old pump action Winchester. I posted a pic of the gun in some other thread. ;)

I would even shoot a wolf with that combo if that is what I had in hand, but no way would choose one for wolf hunting. Coyote within 100 yards a 22WMR is probably fine, but yeah, you may be looking for it.

Like you say...this is a possibility and we should do all we can do to prevent it. Nevertheless, it will happen sometime weather we want it or not. For example, I do not accept that so many people are killed by wars and famines. But, I do not do all I can to stop it because I have a wife and kid, meager financials means and very little power to control what is happening in places like in Syria, Iran, Irak etc. Thus, for the same reason, if I have been searching for a wounded animal for 2 days in the rain or snow, and, it is night and I know my wife and kids need me at home and worry about me; I will choose my family before any animal and return to them safely and in time.

Well, ignoring the completely irrelevant analogies you seem to want to use, the way you "do all you can to prevent" unnecessary suffering of game animals YOU choose to shoot, and for which YOU are in fact responsible, is to use enough gun to prevent losing them, and then you should make all reasonable efforts to find any that run off and finish them. Arguing that humane hunting practices are impractical for you because you have a family, or that maybe you just don't give a darn, is really bad for all hunting and shooting, and makes you look quite pathetic. Or maybe 13 years old.

A hundred yards with a 22lr is a long ways
I have gotten a lot of deer with a 22lr wen I was a kid but never over 35 yards but always a head or neck shot so yes it will ,but wouldn't 223 or even a 22 hornet make more sense if you're worried about pelt damage (22hornet under a 100 yards I would use it on a wolf but not pas that )
223 I would go out to 200 yards for a wolf but not much more

The guy that shoots the most coyotes every year that I know shoots a BLR 22lr

I also have a buddy on the rez that shoots ave 5 moose a year with a 22lr.

100 yards for a 22lr is max

200 yards for a 22 magnum.

I love the 22 hornet for getting fur
I gave my last one a way to a elder on the Rez that I'm from he need a light rifle low recoil and quiet for dear up 130 lb he is in his 80 and hunting keeps him healthy .
I need another 22 hornet for trapping on my new trapline

.22 WMR is not enough for wolves IMO... you might kill one, but in hunting situations, you will loose more than you recover.

On coyotes, I prefer the larger .22 centerfire cartridges, however a friend that is a very successful coyote hunter uses a Ruger 77/22 Mag... and keeps his shots to within 100 yards.

In all the interwebz, there is neither enough face, nor palm, to respond to this filthy post.

Srsly? No.

Seriously?
Your asking if the guy your quoting is serious?
The question is to vague to answer as there are way to many scenerio stop consider.
Is the .22 Mag cab able of taking this wolf who is 1/4 ing away from us at 150 yards with a few trees in its way or I'd the 22 Mag capable of taking this coyote at 25 yards broadside and the critter is hell bent on catching this mouse!
Seriously what is the better of the two scenarios?
There is a better gun for the OP and the opening thread .
The 22 Mag just does not happen to be it ...even if it where the venerable CZ 452 platform in 22 Mag.
I would be inclined to use a .223 and upwards from there with the scenerio as posted.
Tight Grops,
Rob

...I think you blow things out of proportions when you talk about 'animal suffering". Talking about any suffering, including humans, I would like to say that we all suffer in life at some point. Have you ever been to a slaughter house? It is very sad to see what happen there. Right? Have you ever been to an emergency of an hospital? I went to both places. I saw people and animal suffering. So what? It is part of life. I have suffered in an accident. But I survived. I do not even remember the pain now. How long would you suffer with a bullet in the lungs? I would say; not much and not long. You would not be able to breath, the oxygen supply to your brain would stop and you would lose consciouness in a few minutes if not second. Well that is what happened to the few deers I shot this year. I do not think I made them suffer more that when they get eaten alive buy wolves.

Please stop posting garbage that advocates the idea that any suffering you inflict on game is just fine because suffering exists in the world. It is an idiotic idea.

Please stop posting garbage that uses absurd analogies to justify ridiculous ideas about what the existence of suffering and pain in the world should mean to hunters.

All of your posts on this thread are perfect examples of indifference to cruelty and suffering that can easily be used by anti-hunters to prove hunting should be stopped. At this point I think YOUR hunting should be stopped. I don't want it to spill over into my hunting.

I also suspect you have done almost no hunting of any kind whatsoever.

No. You may be able to do it but not expecting good results most of the time. Shooting predators makes for some odd angle shots.

Taking odd angle shots is not mandatory, that's the choice made by the hunter. Do you think hunters take odd angle shots on elephant? You use what you have to its best effectiveness. Not use what you have no matter the conditions.

Hey bearkilr thats not what this is at all. If you have read my second post you would understand. I dont appricate you pjtting me down with stupid comments so piss off

If you don't want "jack ass" answers, as your first post suggests, don't ask stupid questions. A wolf is a big game animal that can weigh 150 lbs and up. I'm sure you know that.
Did you really need to ask if a 22 mag is sufficient at 200 yards or are you just trolling for arguments? Because when I read your original post's statement of "50 gr bullets I don't see why not", it seems your mind is made up.
