Can anyone brief me on the current status regarding short term ATTs? Specifically, I bought a revolver privately, the transfer has been approved and I have papers in hand. I also have a long term ATT. Do I still need to contact the CFO for a short term ATT to bring it home?

Thanks.

According to this.... NO

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/f-11.6/page-6.html

Automatic authorization to transport — transfer

(2.2) Subject to subsection (2.3), if a chief firearms officer has authorized the transfer of a prohibited firearm or a restricted firearm to an individual who holds a licence authorizing the individual to possess prohibited firearms or restricted firearms, the individual must be authorized

(a) to transport the firearm within the individual’s province of residence from the place where the individual acquires it to the place where they may possess it under section 17;

Having said that, I'm no expert, and, it almost smells like you don't enjoy this priv until you have renewed your PAL?

absolutely no need. one of the 6 conditions on the LATT is to pickup newly purchased guns, regardless if it's from private or a business. besides, I just got two guns from EE today and talked to CFO about that. So, just go ahead and bring it home. all you need is the transfer notification either through mail or email, not even the registration paper.

No you are good. But if you sell one, and are taking the gun to the post office to mail to the buyer, you do need a STATT because the gun is no longer technically registered to you.

This is correct, I was just talking to the CFO and they confirmed this.

Sold a revolver yesterday. Buyer and I met at an approved range.
Transfer phoned in, information taken by the woman who answered and then gave a Reference Number. She then transferred the call to the Alberta CFO, who confirmed details and issued the Transfer Notifications via e-mail as we waited, his to his i-phone (mine to my at home computer as I don't have an i-phone).
I left, buyer headed home with the revolver.
Over and done in about 20 minutes phone time.

Amazing! I wish ontario CFO is like this. still waiting for my transfer notification to arrive. guess I will be getting them in 2016.

Sorry to be off topic and a downer on the last day of the year, but ... did those phone calls, e-mails, paperwork and 20-minute delay serve any purpose whatsoever? How did they benefit the individuals, the community or the country?

On a more positive note, even though the paperwork is costly and useless or even dangerous (because it creates a false sense of safety), I am thrilled at how efficient and speedy the police are. Every one of my interactions to get useless paperwork from the Ontario CFO has been speedy, friendly and efficient.
