I know there has been one CNGer who hunted a black bear with a spear, has anyone else hunted with a spear? Were you successful? What did you hunt? What spear did you use?

I just got both the Cold Steel Boar & Assegai spears. Spent a couple hours chucking them today, mainly the Assegai due to it being much lighter. I will need much practice.

I have possession of information, but I would rather shoot myself in the foot than post it here...

I will say this; "thrust, don't cast."

I almost got a nice buck with one about two years ago
I got in really close about 15 feet bounced the wood ! off his back 2 inches lower I would have got him
This year was a bust for me do to work hope to get out next year with the spear to much fun not to do it agen

I goggled up Pig Sticking a while back & found that it was still being done in Spain .
This is with a spear , chasing a wild pig on horse back. This was a tradition by the British in the Colonies
for some time . Lots of pictures & stories on the internet. Also a King of Poland was famous for doing this.

Check them out. ,,,,,,,,,,, Frank

This. Black bear, home made, done it.

Home made is another thing I would like to do. I recently took up forging and would love to forge the head from 3-4 forge welded railroad spikes then make the shaft.

Good videos 9.3mauser. That spear cam really shows what they can do.

It would be easier to buy a decent piece f steel and forge it to avoid the difficulties associated with forge welding. Plus then you know what kind of steel you have and what heat treat it wants.

I had mine made of stainless steel in a local shop from my plans, the head had a threaded lug that screwed into a 1" I.D steel shaft.

Pretty slick sounding, how much does it weigh? Not quite the "rustic" look I am after if I made one but a good idea.
