Windy, snowy New Years Day coyote down

I setup at first light and thought to myself I should be home in bed. With the wind blowing and snow squalls coming through I thought “what the heck am I doing out here”.....The farmer saw me pull in, he must have thought I was nuts….. Since I was already setup, I called on and off for 45 minutes before deciding I should leave this setup location and go home?
Now I really thought about going home but since I was already out and some time to kill I might as well try another spot on the same farm about 500 yds away. I still had my ladder stand up in the corner of a field that lead to a big swamp/marsh area right behind the stand. My thinking was any coyotes might want to head into the swamp to get away from this weather and bed down in there for the day.
I setup my decoy-caller 50 yds or so from my ladder stand. I would watch the field for any coyotes that might be making their way to the swamp plus always a chance for a coyote to come out of the swamp to the decoy. Either way I was going to give it a try…..
I wasn’t in my ladder stand more than 5 minutes when I seen this coyote come over the rise in the field about 170 yds out making her way toward me. She stops about 100 yds out and started mousing (jumping into the air, trying to land on a mouse or two-pretty cool)….. I tried to lip squeak her in a little closer but she was too busy trying to catch mice and kept ignoring me….
After about a minute of this, she stops and stiffens up, looks in my direction (wind change) and starts that fast walk ……I am out of here………. I already had her in my crosshairs so wolf out at her a couple of times before she stops. I immediately send the 55 gr .223 bullet her way. A couple of spins and she was down for the count…

Not a big coyote (probably this years pup) but a good looking/in good shape female coyote….

I took her into the swamp to get out of that snow squall to skin her out...

You're amazing Frank!

My call quit on me on Wed, I'm waiting for Foxpro to send me a new SD card. I hope it fixes the issue, but I have my doubts....

Nice job on the windy day coyote.

Im thinking of headin back out tomorrow or sunday, which ever has the better wind. :)

Good shooting. Were you running the ecaller when you were in the stand? Coyote was just ignoring it?
Yes I had the caller on a dying rabbit sound when I was in my stand. It wasn't on super loud but loud enough for her and me to hear it. She just wasn't interested in the callers rabbit sound nor my kissing sounds. Every time I gave a few kissing sounds she would look over in my direction but just went back at trying to capture that mouse. From her position I am not completely sure she had a clear view of the decoy as she was mousing in a dipped portion of the field.

Fratri Congrats on the yote . Keep on thinning out the population ! Thanks for the read and pics. Good job as always!

Any of you predator callers have a link to hear the proper use of hand calls? I haven't had much success and don't know any hunters around that call
