Looking for suggestion for scope mount for a Bar shorttrac in 300wsm.

Thinking of Talley lightweight or the DNZ game reaper (want something as light as possible.

Haven't decide on scope yet but most likely a Conquest in either 3-9 or 4.5-14 max.

Anybody using has experience with either mount any input will be very much appreciated.

From my research the empty brass on the shorttrac tend to hit bottom of certain type of rings especially when the knobs are on the ejection side.

On my Shorttrac I had Weaver 2 piece bases, and Weaver Grand Slam rings,..they were a good setup and worked very well,..I have the same setup on my X-Bolt.
I have never used Talley Lightweight ring base set up but I think they would be a good setup on a Shorttrac, and would be slightly lighter than the Weavers, (Grand Slams are steel). I would take the Tallies over the DNZ Game Reaper.
If you are trying to keep things lightweight, I would pick a Leupold VX2 over the Zeiss Conquest. The Leupold is sleeker, (I don't like the large eye box on the Zeiss), lighter, and costs less. I have looked through the VX2 and the Conquest,.. both scopes are bright, with a clear sharp image. Some say, in a side by side comparison, the VX2 is a bit brighter than the Conquest, but the Conquest gives a bit sharper image. If cost is no problem, go with the VX3 Leupold, it would be better than the VX2 and Conquest. I have only a 3-9x40 VX1 on my X-bolt and it is a great scope, bright, clear, sharp, and gathers lots of light at dusk and dawn.

So IMO,...the Talley Lightweights and a VX2 would be my choice for the Shorttrac.

Thank you for your post!

I like the VX3 but for some reason I still missed my Conquest (used to have two in different configuration) and although they are a bit heavy but I really like their glass.

I want something offer good low light capability and while maintain light enough with decent eye relief and doesn't break the bank (that's why I haven't look through any much higher end glass like the Swaro / Kahles worry that I can go back once I look at it).

Right on Spcammo,...you can't go wrong with a Zeiss,...I just thought I would suggest the Leupolds for a little weight savings. I think you are right about the Swarovski optics,...a guy I know has one and he says there is no such thing as darkness with that scope, lol.

I have a DNZ gamereaper on my Short Action BLR, and Ruger 10/22. I'd highly recommend them. Very strong, stable, one piece with extra long / deep screws. Simple to install / remove. One piece base = less chance of movement due to recoil, bumps, etc. Pretty cool looking as well.

I'm a Leupold guy - Hard to go wrong that brand and the multiple series (Vx1, VX2, VX3, etc.) allow a real range of price and feature selection.

Happy shooting!
