Time to Legalize High Fence Hunting in Manitoba??

So you're OK with farmers who call in a group of First Nations hunters to wipe out a herd of elk that's been eating the bales they left out there??

How about the farmer who lets anyone shoot the elk before its baled? How about the animals that eat the bales after they are hauled?

I'm not in favor of "extra curricular" hunting, but its legal. How do you charge the landowner for allowing legal hunting?

In MB, it's illegal to shoot a cervid for protection of property. So this is illegal. A loophole but, still illegal.
I agree it would be difficult to enforce. Again, a quota/daily limit or the tag system I stated above may help.

That's not a loop hole, its legal hunting on a place where they have permission to be. If you think you can get the law changed to end native hunting go ahead. Maybe it'll spread to here.

In my area, the invitational extra curricular hunting includes bison too. I won't be making any calls to get them shot. I like having them around, but not everyone else does.

Haha That's a great idea! If I wasn't such a dedicated conservationist I would work for Manitoba Conservation and implement your idea to fine landowners who allow hunting on their land. After all isn't wildlife a public resource which belongs to the people? Why would we let a private individual benefit after buying the land, protecting it, and then hunting one of the many animals that hard working citizen helped nurture to maturity.

Think it's time for nursary rymes everyone...let's start with "The Little Red Hen"

As for you "razorbeck" I couldn't help but chuckle when you responded negatively to my mandate to fire members of conservation that can't meet my targets and goals you said "you can not fire people who disagree with your goals..."etc. I find it ironic that on your profile your "occupation" says "firing people".

I also smiled when I read in the "interests" section of your profile "shooting things". Can't help but point out you won't be "shooting things" on my land or anyone else's after mocking my investment in conservation. You can re-read your post you'll know what I mean. Instead of commending me on helping our cause you mocked my involvement in conservation. Like to see you throw down well over 100k and resist the temptation to log my forest and plow my meadows or graze 100 cattle.

You are a case in point why hunters are in the position we're in.

Well you can't really graze 100 cattle on a mere 3/4's. As for land I only own 250 acres and I have at least 14 bucks and 27 does transitting my property there are 3 greater than 130 and one larger than 150. So who is winning the bull#### bragging war? Never shot a doe in my life, never shot a buck less than a big 3x3, passed on many a shot on smaller bucks. So tell me again what a hero you are?

It's like an argument at the kiddie table now, who has more property, who has more big bucks.... Good grief, there are people on here with thousands of acres some even more. You two aren't doing yourselves any favors.

LOL I know Cleft thats sort of the point 250 acres isn't even a hobby farm. But then I never claimed to be an expert trying to tell a whole province how to run their business

I guess Manitoba isn't ready for change. Thankfully in a province to the west a man has the freedom to choose how to use his land. God bless Saskatchewan! It will be interesting to see in the future how the outcomes for hunters and wildlife will compare beween the neighbour provinces. Will Manitoban's be flocking to Saskatchewan to hunt on game farms during season closures? What will be the next species to have a closure...elk? What is happening with Manitoba's wildlife today is what happened with the cod fishery off the east coast.

The fact both of you guys know exactly how many deer you have on your property is pretty comical.

In my case they all show up to the same 2 acre opening if you sit quietly you can watch them come and go in shifts. Its kind of amazing because otherwise you would never know there were that many animals that close

We had all better really enjoy shooting paper cause thats all we will be allowed to shoot soon!

I personally know non-aboriginals that have harvested over 30 moose per person in a single season, I also know others, again non-aboriginal, that shot over 60 deer in a season. Each. This is not only immoral, but illegal. It's not just "the Metis", it's people of every race that do dumb sh!t. It would be appreciated if some of you would wake up and realize you aren't some superior group or race.

Focusing on protecting our wildlife is much more important than pointing fingers at each other.

Rob, everyone knows our government is retarded when it comes to natural resources and social issues, especially since Turdeau senior.

That's disgusting and you should turn them all in. To me it's not a matter of blaming race, but a government honouring something that's a thing of the past. I think we all just want equality..

For those that still live a traditional lifestyle, nothing but respect for them. Awesome. But don't you think it would make sense if they had to apply for a subsistence card or something. If you enjoy all of the modern amenities I do not think that should entitle you to anything.

(Don't paint me a racist please.)

While diabetes rates are soaring among First Nations, Nepinak said his people are being denied access to traditional, healthy food. At the same time, he said Saskatchewan hands out thousands of moose tags to sport hunters every year.

"The Saskatchewan government is actively encouraging people to take down 6,000 moose for sport hunting every year but meanwhile, they are out there harassing our hunters that come from the treaty territories."

In other words, stop the "sport hunting" before you even think of "harassing" native hunters. Kind of in line with that case I posted earlier.

As the crow flies, Pine Creek FN is 100 km from the MB/SK border........... Traditional hunting ground.

Moose hunting has been closed for all in that surrounding area due to very low numbers.
