Purchasing SKS for first gun, what to look for?(purchased now, pics post 98)

Am I the only one who likes that brand spankin new look of the BBQ paint SKS's?

Nice rifle you got there. The hard wood stock looks great as well! Congratulations! Now buy a case of ammo and do your best to burn through it. :)

So that wasnt nearly as easy to strip and clean as some guys make it seem!

However im sure ill get better with practice

You'll get better at tearing it down. Off the shelf the latches can be super tight, they will get worked in. getting the parts squeaky clean is always somewhat of a pain, especially the piston.

I've already put one through the SKS from wholesale sports. I'm trying to get some time this weekend to put at least a few hundred rounds through this nice one from corwin arms.

Yes the latches on the one from corwin are super tight, the piston I don't find to hard to clean as long as you do it immediately, I left it for a few hours once and it made it much worse to clean. Now I always do it as soon as I get home.

Don't forget about cleaning the second piston! The nylon SKS brush fits right inside and passes right through.

I put 300 rounds through one of mine the other day. Got dirty as hell! Lol.

"Lever Arms lost their import license a while ago, and the ones they have in stock are second picks from dealers who can still import."

Well say what you will about how they service is, or used to be, that is just an outright lie.
There is a thread over in green/black shotguns all about the shotgun they developed and imported.

R.... - You mean the one you helped design since you work at Lever Arms? SHILL

research slam fire .. clean well and proper .. this is not first time rifle in my opinion .. mine spotless clean and i handled C7 and Aks , sks still slammed fired on me three times in a matter of 200 rounds .. beautiful rifle .. just beware of this slam fire thing ... and avoid murray's pin some people tried and the spring some sort of clonged in one piece .. dont modify it and dont waste your money trying to scope it .. :) just my two cents I love my 2 SKSs :)

I have never had a slam fire in the 9 SKS's that I've owned. And I've shot close to 10 k rounds through mine.

i know , the thing is i have two of them and i dont use corrossives, before shooting the thing it's spotless still slam fire , once when i let the bolt back slams into brnaul ammo and bang :) , second i pull the trigger once and it shoot twice haha , going out hunting with this thing is stressful especially when you have company .. i ended up borrowing my father in law 303 .. dont get me wrong i love this thing next gun show i see a nice one im not sure i will stop myself from buying a third

Stop using soft commercial primers and man up and shoot corrosive with hard primers like the gun was designed to and the slam fires will stop.

I have 6 and at least 1 doesn't like reloaded ammo. It doubled on me with ammo reloaded using Winchester primers. Stick to shooting milsurp in that one and all is fine.

I'm sure it would work fine with reloads using a milspec primer.

Good. Maybe that will finally stop them from panning off their Chinese military surplus corrosive ammo as non-corrosive.

I dont know if ethics are part of their business model since they have no problem having one of their employees posting smack in other CGN dealers forums under an anonymous account

I'm so disappointed with "Lever Arms " Customer Service, It's not even funny !!! Very Poor !
I would get into details but no need ! Customer relations seminars and courses would be a good start ! That's all I have to say about that !
