510 Wells and 550 Magnum Anyone have one or shot one. Looking for Advice.

So I tried to order my .550 barrel. Its a no go. Im still waiting to hear back why exactly can not be imported. Im not very happy.

The US can't export anything over .500". Not sure how the biggest CZs get into the country. Might have to source a barrel from Europe.

Lothar Walther has .577, I am not sure about .550.

Yeah I was gunna check Lothar Walther. I read Truvelo in South Africa makes a .550" barrel. Im not sure on the export laws of South Africa, but I thought Id give them a shout.

And yes It is the ITAR crap that is the reason I can not get it from the states.

So I Emailed the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls about possible getting a sporting use exemption for a .550" barrel. They stated that any barrel that is over .50 can only be sold to Government agency. But they did ask if I can build the rifle with a barrel under .50. I stated that I'm looking to build a rifle in a particular sporting cartridge that requires a .550" barrel and that there are no barrel makers in Canada that can produce a barrel with that large of a bore diameter.

So I guess we shall see. They never said No You will not be able to get the barrel. But Im not holding my breath either. Chances are I won't be able to get one. But I figured I'd give it a try, You never know.

I can get a .510" barrel and build a 510 Wells. But If I get a chance to build a 550 Magnum I figured I'd give it a chance.

So Im going to put this build on hold for now.
