Looking for some AR help/advice in the GTA

so heres the deal guys, I'm trying to source an ar-15 upper receiver vice block in the toronto area, and i'm hoping that you guys here can send me in the right direction.

I'm trying to switch out my hand guard, gas block/ front site, etc. And from my research i need a vice block so i don't warp the upper removing the barrel nut. i've been waiting on some parts to come in before i started this search, and the parts are here now.

any ideas where i could source one locally? anyone have one to lend or sell?

EDIT--- Problem solved guys, ended up getting it assembled by Casey at Tactical Ordnance (for a very reasonable rate), didn't want to risk damaging the Lefty parts as they'd be a pain to source and I'm rough on my things.

It locks into your barrel extension, so most of the force is held there at the barrel instead of transferring it to your upper when you use an upper block only

Similar to a reaction rod

I have a upper block but it does not fit all my uppers, actually I had to modify it to fit any of them properly. Any upper that steps away from standard AR15 shape, wont fit in it. So its very limited IMO unless you only have standard classic style uppers.

I would not buy one again, Id rather a reaction rod or something like the mag block

I just did a 9mm build, got a Gibbz arms side charging upper and there was no way what so ever to get that into my upper block. I had to MacGuyer a setup in my vise using blocks of hard wood to torque my barrel nut. I bought that tool to build uppers and it will only fit my Daniel Defense upper and my PSA upper. And even then I had to slightly trim some of the plastic for it to fit even those 2. Now I really only use it for the mag block part of it

Another bonus of the reaction rod or mapul block is if you have optics on your upper, you do not have to remove it to put it in a vise block. If you want to hold your upper to swap a barrel or rail, sawp a flash hider or muzzle brake, etc anything like that without removing your optics you can do that

I was at my range yesterday (Target sports Canada) they had a bit of things like that, I know I saw an armors wrench, and Im pretty sure they had some kind of upper block there beside it. Give them a try

Otherwise Im in Mississauga, you could use upper block if it would fit your upper.

Scratch that I called them and they just have a wrench no block

I feel you pain man hate waiting for that one little part to come from the US or half way across Canada

Anyways if its worth the drive you can use my block, vise, and torque wrench here at my shop in Mississauga

dude much appreciated, i'm gonna have dinner and think on this, might just need to suck it up and order one.
 
I have contoured vice blocks that you use to clamp on the barrel.

Ultimately it's better than using a reaction rod or BEV Block because you don't risk loosening the the barrel extension (hypothetically it shouldn't happen but certain manufacturers don't torque their barrel extensions properly :mad: ).

Where in the GTA are you?

see that looks like it would work well, probably a pretty expensive rig eh?
 
Ask around I'm sure some will lend out the tool for a day.

Actually go on Brownells website its under 40 USD which is a great price. The clam shell and insert is about 50 USD.

I have the clam shell and insert and its good for what I do. But I was thinking getting alum barrel block.

thanks man, and that may be what I end up doing, but i've been slowly assembling parts and got the last pieces today now i'm just short tools. and frankly I'm sick of being patient I wanna see this b!tch assembled, even if she can't go out and play yet.
 
hey just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the help. After doing a bunch of shopping around for tools, in the end it was more reasonably priced to have Casey and the guys at Tactical Ordnance assemble her, I'm gonna have them do it after Shot Show. Pretty stoked.

That is too bad, assembling firearms is %50 the fun of this hobby for me. You should get the tools eventually

I might buy another DPMS wrench and the alum barrel block and rent it out. I lent out my clam shell till someone parked a CRV and used that as a vise. If I had my tools I wouldn't have a problem sending it out, but another friend has them ATM.
