I've just gotten back from the range this morning and found my 10/22 takedown to be nearly flawless with the HC3R 25 round magazines. Dumping 25 rounds in a few seconds puts a huge smile on my face

I did have 4 rounds in a row that had extremely light strikes (did not fire) when I was shooting with one of the factory 10 round magazines. I have heard that Volquartsen makes a great aftermarket firing pin, and I figured it would be time to upgrade my extractor with theirs as well. Where can I find these in Canada? I have seen them on Ebay but they wont ship to Canada...

I went through Hical.ca and got a titanium extractor (+spring) for mine.

They've got a decent selection of parts to tune up your 10/22, and they're located in BC.

Thanks, I will check them out. I actually received an error message when I tried to place my order with SSS. Said something about not being able to ship the item/to my location. I sent them an email so I will see what they say.

I took the bolt apart and everything looked fine. I may have reversed the firing pin spring last time I took it down this far, but I doubt that would have any effect. I did have on legit dud on one round, 4 strikes and no boom. The other 4 with the light strikes did fire later on, although I wish I took a photo of the mark left behind.

From what I remember it looked like a small triangle that didn't actually touch the rim, only closer to the center of the round. This sounds like it was being hit by the bottom corner of the firing pin, but not the whole pin itself. Seems odd considering the firing pin looked completely normal...

I plan on taking it out again next weekend to shoot, so I will see if it happens again and take some photos this time.

Good idea, although I find it odd that it only did this on 4 rounds out of ~100

Only 4 rounds? did you fire it after that or was the last 4 rounds? Any some strange way the v bolt backs out increasing the headspace? I get about 4-5 duds from about 100rds from bulk ammo.

Yeah, it was 4 in a row after about ~45 flawless rounds and then I fired another ~50 that all went bang.

This is a 10/22 takedown version so I don't think my headspace is set the same way, but I could be wrong.

Also, I have a Volquartsen aftermarket hammer and sear. I did have to grind down the hammer near the top to match the same profile as the stock hammer because I was having lots of issues with fullyloaded 25 round mags. The stock hammer has a slant like " / " near the top which the Volquartsen was just " | "

Perhaps I took just enough off that it is possible to hit the firing pin with the slanted part causing the pin to hit the round unevenly? Just the odds of it happening 4 times in a row but only 4 times is pretty weird....

Hope that made sense...
