Recently I have been noticing a trend of stores and online vendors requiring pals/rpals to purchase primers and powders. Today i noticeed an online vendor requiring an account made with this information required to just see the items instock online.

yes, we know some components are getting harder to find or more expensive, buti personally think this should not be required. What you you guys think?

I will let my opinion on this be known, I personally won't deal with companys that require this infomation. If we don't nip this in the bud, what else will we be required to do before purchases?

I was only asked once at a LGS, they had a paper leger.

Asked for no ID, just wanted a signature to log how many you got per day (they had a daily limit).

Just made up a name, thats as far as I would go.

I can see a LGS that doesn't know you asking to see your rpal to handle a restricted as they only want serious buyers handling the restricteds.

Back when Canadian Tire would not even sell .177 copper BB's for the kids red Ryder without seeing and recording your drivers license I refused to buy anything from them when they demanded it.

I used to ask them why they needed it because I wasn't driving ammo, especially BB's. And even if I was, it was NONE of their business.

By law do you need a pal to buy powder or just be over 18? Preparing to pick up my powder order from cabelas and wanna be ready to tell them to shove it if they ask do my pal

From my asking LGS (Internationalshootingsupply) they only are required to record ID (NOT PAL) of anyone buying powder in a ledger. Everything else is unregulated, other than completed ammo PAL required obviously.

The local gun shops (One is Barton's Big country) Only require that I fill out my name and address on a slip of paper (That they are required to keep for I think 2 years) For powder.

I don't like it , but it is not the end of my world.

Going to look like I got a lot, except I have been using it

I don't know about primers, but under the Explosives Act retailers are required to see gov't issued ID and record name, address, quantity and date of each sale of powder.
Doesn't have to be your PAL, but your details are supposed to be recorded. "Good news" is they only have to keep the record for 2 years.

What he said, it's not the firearms act at fault this time.

From ERD NRCAN site:

Q. What is acceptable identification?

Acceptable identification is a government-issued photo ID or two pieces of ID, one of which is government issued, that sets out the person’s address.

Q. What is required on the record of sale?

Sellers must keep a record of sale for all propellant powder sold for two years following the date of the sale. The information that must be kept is:
•the buyer’s name and address, or a licence number issued under the Firearms Act and the expiry date;
•the type, trade name, size of container, and authorization information;
•the quantity of powder sold under each trade name; and
•the date of the sale.

If you got a PAL you're in the Feds books and they know were to find you, come confiscation time. So who cares if they know you buy primers.
For those of you who prefer to live in secrecy, my tin foil hat is off to you.:rolleyes:

who cares?.. as long as they arent recording the info, what does it matter?. , i`ll show my pal as ID, or my license , what ever they ask for, , its funny, theres people on here that get upset when they cant use their PAL/RPAL for ID somewhere else, but lose it when they get asked to show it when buying powder, lol, store policies are store policies, if you dont like it , dont shop at that particular store, dont be an ass about it, show them the legislation where it outlines the particular laws, better to inform then to annoy , although its a grey line these days between those two but again, store policy , as long as it isnt violating federal law, isnt going to be changed, they make their store rules based of someones actions in the past, same with safety rules at work, every rule is generally brought about by an accident or incident

I think in some provinces a permit is required for a tin foil hat now under body armor regs

The law does not require your PAL, just identification, it's not up to the vendor to demand one, and not accept another. Simple.

It's their choice to ask, and refuse sale of goods if the seller refused showing his/her PAL, it's also my choice to take my business elsewhere if they don't understand the law or decide to implement their own laws.
