Hey all. I'm very very very new to reloading. Actually I haven't loaded a round yet, I'm still in the process of getting all the gear....

anyways While I'm waiting for my gear to show up I've been researching. I think I've figured out a powder I can use in all m pistols, but now I'm looking for a powder that I can use in rifles.

I'm trying to only use 1 single powder for each if possible. I know .223 needs a faster burning powder, and .30.06 needs a slower one. Is there one somewhere in the middle that I can use for both calibers?

I've been research all over the internet and have yet to find a powder recipe I can use for both. I have a lyman 49th manual, but it too is in the mail so I can't look it up in there yet. Anyone have any ideas for me? There's so many powders it's taking me forever to look though the data for all of them so I thought I'd ask here.

For .223 I'll be using 55gr bullets, but for .30.06 I'm pretty open. likely 150gr or 180gr. (Just in case it matters).

Also I'd prefer a more common powder because it can be damn hard to find powder nowadays. Luckily I know a guy that can likely get what I need so long as it's not too uncommon.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

If you stay with the lighter bullets in the 30-06, Winchester 748, IMR 4064 or 4895, Hodgdons Varget would work.

Not optimum in the 30-06, but with 150 grain bullets, OK.

Regards, Dave.

THanks guys. It's late I'm going to bed I'll do more reading ont hem tomorrow. Ideally I'd like a powder that will give me under a 4inch group at 100yards with both guns. I'm not aiming for pinpoint accuracy out of both. one's a hunting gun ( and i don't hunt anymore) and one's a run and gun AR, so really I just want to hit paper or steal out to 100yards.

Any of the medium speed powder works quite well in both. Powders like 4895, Varget, RL15, BLC2, H335, 748.

I use BLC2 as my plinker powder for 223 and 3006 because it meters perfectly and I happen to have a lot of it on hand.

When I started this is what I wanted to do as well. used varget but didnt get the speeds I wanted with the 30-06 for went to h4350 for that. Couldn't be happier with that choice.
