Looking at refinishing my Double Barrel ( Bluing )

Thanks for the info. I bought this shotgun for 2 reasons. Shooting and have a cool older wall hanger I could refinish within time to learn. Now that i have found that shooting is kinda out of the question, then i guess it will be my next art piece. Learn some new skills I have always wanted to get better at.

I want another double barrel for shooting skeet and such with. I went to Cabela's and handled many different brands, price points ect.. But this is just going to be a beat up shotgun and skeet shooter. The reason why i liked the old one i have is it feels great, its old so doesn't matter if it gets beat up and the price point is great. SO what should I be looking for year wise and price point to fit my needs?

What you should be looking at is a tough one to answer as there are so many options out there in the used double barrel arena. If you are shooting skeet then you want more open chokes which is often hard to find in an older used SxS. You could always have the chokes opened up though. If you want choke tubes then you are getting into newer guns. But if you are okay with getting fixed chokes and opening them up if need be, then pretty much any double barrel from the 50's on will fill the need. You can get some pretty decent used older double barrels between $500.00 and $1000.00. But, if you get a particular gun in mind, I would ask questions on here before you buy.

Good idea. I don't know what your budget is but say you could spend around $800.00. You can get some very nice, very good quality older German, Italian or Belgian doubles for that and they will likely last a lifetime. Far better than a low priced new gun. Just be careful of low end used guns though.

Yeah, I just purchased an over and under Baikal IJ-27. Its in great condition almost new! Stole it for $300 CAD, and its a solid shotgun with good bores, perfect stock and bluing is all in good condition. Cant wait to shoot it, will be my new skeet shotgun for now until I find a good deal on an older double. Thanks for the info, I agree your better to buy an higher quality older firearm then a cheaper one, cause it will still be better quality then the cheaper one!

Yeah, I just purchased an over and under Baikal IJ-27. Its in great condition almost new! Stole it for $300 CAD, and its a solid shotgun with good bores, perfect stock and bluing is all in good condition. Cant wait to shoot it, will be my new skeet shotgun for now until I find a good deal on an older double. Thanks for the info, I agree your better to buy an higher quality older firearm then a cheaper one, cause it will still be better quality then the cheaper one!

They are a well built gun especially if they are the older USSR made guns. I had a couple of them. However, for skeet you will have to get the chokes opened up as most were choked pretty tight. The bores are also chrome lined which can be hard on a reamer if the proper reamer isn't used.

Good to know. I rally wasn't looking to spend $800+ on an over and under atm, because for a decent brand and quality you can barley even get them in that price range. This shotgun is in new condition almost and price, i can't complain. Ill look into that, thanks for the info!
