So i figured I'd give this a try since it's really easy to remove, and it won't harm anything.

Glock 20 gen 4. Green camo plasti dip. 4 coats with 30min between each.

I'll let you know how it holds up :)

UPDATE...

Not so good. About 30 holsters/unholsters

Oh well. It was worth a try anyway.

Interesting. Seeing as it is pretty easy to remove you should do some sort of color that is contrasting to the original black. Like a tan. If it wears it will be more noticeable. If you don't like the color after a while, strip and redo.

Looks cool. I use plastidip on a ton of things. Mainly my motorcycle's plastic pieces. I was happy with the results, mostly. My biggest let down with plastidip is that it's not very durable. It does scrape off when it's rubbed or scraped with something with moderate pressure. I'm not sure the pistol would be used lightly enough to keep it in tact. Petroleum based products melt it, not sure about cleaners...
But my biggest pro I've found, is if it does chip or tear, it's an easy fix. I've smoothed the edge and RE sprayed the area and looks good as new.
I would like to see it after some use.
Cool idea.

I couldn't be bothered to remove the mag release lol. It's definitely not going to be super durable, and after it's cured for a couple of days i'll start using it with a holster. It might not hold up well to holster use. As for cleaning, guess we'll see :) it feels nice though. The plastidip on my truck grill still looks new after 6 months, but there's nothing rubbing on it.

It's a temporary coating anyway and i'll give tan a go next if the green lasts at all.

Thanks for trying and posting. Saved me time from trying something similar.

Great product - but there are obviously trade-off's between removability and durability. Works well on motorcycle and car parts that do not get actual physical contact in my experience.

Actually i'm pretty happy with the gen 4 grip texture as it comes from the factory. I just wanted to see how well the plastidip would hold up. I'm sticking with krylon for my ar's.

A buddy of mine mentioned this spray-on plastidip to me the other day. Looks interesting.

Where did you pick it up? All I have seen so far is black, yellow, and blue.
