I bought a Ruger American in .243 last year and it's been a huge disappointment. I got the rifle, a set of dies, some fresh brass, and a fine assortment of bullets for testing, but the stupid rifle consistently puts five shots of 80gr and 100gr Federal blue-box soft points into an inch or so at 100 yards. There's no freakin' point to doing serious load development for it! I had to buy a whole 'nother rifle just to have any fun.
I bought a Stevens 200 in .243 when they first came out. Only thing I did to it was to adjust the trigger. This thing is a laser, regardless of bullet type. Very impressed. Hard to find now.

I wonder how many guys that diss the axis have owned one ....D
Agree. I bought one also some years back and cannot imagine why they stopped making them. They were selling like crazy and a excellent bang for the buck
Cheers
You won't be disappointed with the rugged American. Here is a link of what I did with mine my first time out with my .243 compact

Not meaning to sound like an ahole but how do do figure that is a 1/4" group? Looks to me like 1.5" unless I am missing something?
Go read the post again and you can answer your own questions.
You might want to check the ammo costs for .243 before you decide. Unless you reload it may not be your rifle.
