suggestions for scope system for Ithaaca 37

Good Day.

Have a Ithaca 37 12 gauge that I am going to have cut down to 22" and use as my tree stand/bush gun with slugs where my shots are never more than fifty yards.

I will also have the shotgun d&t'd for a scope and would like your suggestions.

I would like to stay away from a traditional scope.

I have used a cheap red dot in the past on a different platform, and interested what I would get as an advantage to something of higher quality? Is there a holo sight recommended? Is there a sight option I am missing?

As mentioned shots are never more than 50 yards and would be interested in something very durable, accurate and fast in acquiring the target.

Why not try and find a slug barrel with rifle sights? Inside 50 yards more than adequate unless your eyesight is an issue.
 
Any two power scope would work .I like a 2 to 7 .on my shotgun..just look threw a lot of scopes and find one you like. Spend a little more now than having to buy a second one latter. That you wish you got the first time.luppys Burris elite .all good scopes .Dutch
 
I cut down and scoped a 16 gauge years ago for the same purpose. I had a smith drill and tap 4 holes in the receiver top and mounted a Weaver one piece base. Then it was as simple as selecting a 1.5 to 5 power scope of your preference. That little gun killed deer well past 100 yards with that set up and Federal slugs. I also had a sling stud installed so the gun was easier to carry. Perfect smooth bore set up. If your shooting a 12 bore why not have the smith trim the stock and install a good pad also. 37's with slugs equal recoil. The 16 wasn't too bad.

Maybe Burris speed bead? Honestly maybe some fiber optic open sights? ........if 50 yrds is max range?

Was never a fan of the red dots. not bright enough to in bright sunlight, too bright in low light. And I constantly obsessed about the batteries.
 
I have had great luck with good red dots on my turkey guns and thy have all held up to the big bang of the 3.5 inch shells .and thy would shake any think loose. Lol ..buy a good red dot .don't cheap out Dutch
 
A low power illuminated variable scope 1 power to what ever, would be nice. The illumination would take it out of the "traditional scope" category for you...... :)
Good optics are handy for lower light situations and so is the illumination.

S&J sells a nice base rail for Ithaca's, you'd just need to get it drilled and tapped to match.

For red dot's I'd go for a Sparc II or a Bushnell TRS 25, Leupold makes a prismatic scope that is expensive and has a traditional eye relief which would work fine mounted on the receiver. The prismatic lets you fine tune the optic to your eyes and the etched reticle is usable with or without power and there is no star effect from the red dot if you have astigmatism. Vortex also sells a prismatic but I've never seen one in person.

Reading your desires in your post, may I suggest an Aimpoint. They are very popular in Europe where game is driven to the hunter already in place. Distances tend to be short & with moving animals.

If you are not looking for something like a used/not abused Leupold M8 in fixed 3 or 4 power, that is.
