I have recently acquired a NIB Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber wrapped barrel. The price was insanely good in comparison to the Proof Barrels. I can find very little feedback on either barrel. Like anything else on the Internet, you can find whatever info you want to hear, including "the most accurate barrel I ever owned" to "what a piece of junk"! Does anyone have any real experience with them? I'm not so much interested in the "my cousins brother in-law has one" story's though please. Hahaha

Thanks GunNutz!

Can you PM me the info where you got it and what you paid? I am beating up the Proof/benchmark/Christensen choices right now, wanting to build my LR carry ready hunter... thinking a Timberline action, lightweight stock etc.... I know ATRS build with them, and Shawn338 I am sure will chime in, he has some experience in the carbon barrels, hopefully some knowledge will chime in.

I owned a Christensen rifle chambered in 7stw. It shot decent but for what I paid for it I think it should have shot better. Since that I have built two rifles with carbon benchmark barrels. The first a 7stw and the second a 28 nosler. My stw shoots 1/2" if I do my part. The 28 I still have to shoot. Regardless of the barrel you have if the price was good then chamber it up shoot it and enjoy it.

I will be chambering it either way now that I have paid for it. Do you presume that the barrel was the culprit, or was it the quality of the build as a whole? I have read a few rotten things regarding their custom builds in the past. Cockeyed receiver faces and mashed up barrel threads. As I understand it, they have cleaned up their act with regards to the rifle building, but I'm mostly interested in the barrel performance? I can't find much just in regards to their barrels...

In any case I will find out one way or the other on my own soon enough. I would just like to have an idea of what to expect.

Depending on the action and the gunsmith you choose to do the work will determine how straight the receiver is and how well the threads and chamber are cut. The Christensen rifle I owned was a very nice looking gun and as I said it shot ok. I have also herd they have been doing better work on their guns but for me I can build a better rifle with the components I want for the same or less money than they charge for one of theirs. If your looking for a good gunsmith with experience in carbon barrels shoot me a pm and I can give you some info.

Thanks for the offer, but this build will be performed by Terry L'Hereaux at Black Art Rifle Co. I am a Machinist myself and would likely do the build myself if I was to use an all steel barrel. As it is a Carbon wrap I realize there are a few handling issues that would better be left to someone who has done it in the past.

Thanks,

JR
