Hey Everyone,

I just bought an older (1970~) Wingmaster Magnum. It came with a 30" fixed full choke vent rib barrel. I'm hoping to go duck hunting and to shoot some clays. I won't be shooting steel from the full choke so I bought a 28" express barrel 2 3/4" - 3" but unfortunately the magazine cap always loosens after a few shots(express barrels do not fit on wingmasters).

Now my options are:

1) Thread the original barrel for chokes(1 gunsmith said only thin wall chokes so it'd make this barrel lead only, still can't shoot steel)

2) Ream out original barrel to mod choke to shoot steel and stick with mod choke forever for clays

3) Buy new wingmaster barrel threaded for chokes(not sure if they make new barrels in magnum?) *Expensive and most barrels are back ordered right now so its difficult to find

Let me know what you guys think is best.

Thanks,
Harry

Or have your smith convert the express barrel to ball detent? Or buy a Wave washer?

New ringmaster bbl's are $300 at cabelas.

An O-Ring for the express barrel would work without further modifications? That'd be great! Then I may just use the express for ducks as it is able to shoot 3" and can add chokes if needed and keep the original for clay shooting.

Thanks for the info guys!

It has always worked for me. I have seen others also just use a little teflon plumbers tape around the threads and replace it as required pending how many times you switch the barrels
Cheers

Unless they have changed, express barrels didn't have the detent, but the hole for it was there. A detent and spring are like 10 bucks and take about 5 minutes to do

Yeah unfortunately mine did not have the detent. I picked up a pack of 2 o rings from canadian tire 2.50 and put one on. Will test it out at the range and see how it holds.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Another option is to have your local smith punch detents into the tube and put an express cap mechanism on the gun. This will only work if you never plan to use a mag extension.

I do know Gunco in Ottawa (and other smiths?) offers a conversion service to put Wingmaster detents into express barrels.

For future reference for the o-ring size. I bought the 13/16" ID(Inside diameter) x 1-1/16" OD(Outside diameter) x 1/18" O-Ring from canadian tire. It was like $2.50.

Used it in 2 rounds of sporting clays and a round of trap, no loosening of the mag cap yet, works great.

Glad it worked out for you. Cheeper than a new barrel :)
