Ithaca Stakeout

Very cool. Did you source them from the US?

I'd be interested in pics of the pump. I've been looking for one with the strap for ages. Found some in Canada but he wanted something ridiculous like $150. Figured it might be possible to mod an existing one.

Yes they came from the US, i'll try to post some pic of the disasembled forend next week end.

.

Awesome pics, many thanks. Doesn't look like it would be too hard to replicate. Hardest thing would be the slot on the front.

I wish there was a source for the Steakouts here in Canada or are they even produced by the manufacturer now?

The Rem MCS in the SBR sounds like an interesting story. How'd you source one? State side?

After recently shooting this 20 gauge Stakeout.......I find it awesome that McCoy has a few 12 gauge restricted shotguns.
Because my wrists just ache looking at those short boom sticks. These are not for me!

I am an Ithaca collector, but a 12 gauge M37 Stakeout may not be in my future.
However, a very early production 20 gauge Stakeout with the Ultralight receiver, might be in my future plans.
Or, even better, I'll hunt around for a Vietnam era trench gun, that I can kind of afford.

just maybe.........

What would be GREAT is if you could get 14" Ithaca barrels with threaded chokes. There are lots and lots of older M37 actions out there begging for a shorty bbl and a makeover!

I LOVE my long 37 and would prefer a short 37 over my heavier 870's.

Don't shoot that thing with the pistol grip, i'm trying to source some straight stock but theyre expensive (anything Ithaca is expensive anyway) too bad theyre is no support from the Canadian Ithaca rep.

Youre one of the lucky few who have a legal 13.5" barrel on your Ithaca.

Yes sir that is not lost on me. A Stakeout (especially in 20 gauge) was one of those things firmly planted in my mind.
Mostly from the excellent writings of the late Jim Cirillo of NYPD fame.

Cheers!

^Just some added info Claven2. This may or may not be real news to you. In Walter Snyder's M37/M87 Ithaca collector book, on or about the same page 97.
Right after the paragraph on the Ithaca Stakeout 13.5 inch "Hand Grip" model, is listed the 12 gauge only parkerized 14 inch Ithaca with the full stock.

This was referred to as the Police Department model. And also in the category of Class III firearms within the USA. IIRC, both of these LE/Self Protection shotguns were catalogued in 1981'ish. And actually there is one photo on the internet, of a police officer in New Orleans, early Post Katrina, and he appears to have one of these braced on his hip during boat patrol.

The problem of course is there are 2 generations of Ithaca M37 barrels, separated by s/n 855,000. The earlier group are serial numbered and actually thread in and stop. The later group are interchangeable and can actually rotate 360 degrees if the lug doesn't hit anything.
So any barrels would have to be one or the other and the early ones have to be fitted.

Years ago I did have a 14" Ithaca barrel. They do exist.

I have one of the 14" M87 barrels and I do believe that it is more than thick enough for chokes. I've always planned on getting it Vang Comped with Remmy rifle sights but it just sits there. Like most of my ideas, lol.

Damn....years ago, I had a brand new Ithaca 37 14.5" shotgun.....and sold it. I should have kept that one!

Nice stakeouts!
