Whats a Unfired 1980's Winchester M70 XTR in 7x57 worth?

650$ would be tops in my books. You start talking a grand may as well get a feather weight or a new super grade ..

You nailed it I think.... I'd give it 650 to 680 in NIB condition and that's in Canadian dollars using our dollar value as of today. A grand or over and I think it's overpriced by a large amount.

EDIT: missed the safe kisses info.... that brings it down to $590 top of the mark in my books...

Fair enough....But then add taxes, and you are looking at over $1200....

Not everyone cares about Crf..... Rem 700 sales illustrate that.....

It's not a $1000 rifle..... But it's not a $600 rifle either imop

Taxes here would be $105 less if bought out of province.

As for the rem 700 sales they sit on the shelves here for months and months. Tikka, sako, browning, cz all sell better. When a cz comes in here its pretty much gone in a few days.

I agree with the axis comment. I pay more than some rifles are worth just because it is still saving a bunch from new and its what I want when I want it. Another poster mentioned in another thread about axis and similar rifles making up 30% or more in rifle sales in a particular store. If an axis is worth $500-600 scoped then an XTR is worth 1500

"MY" Top dollar on that rifle would be $800... but I have zero interest in an XTR.

I consider this a good assessment..... And I have no interest either.....

It's a struggle for non axxis, mass produced plastic guys these days.....

What I find from axxis plastic guys these days is that they wish they could afford and shoot the "nice stuff".....

The guys that have the "nice stuff", read classic wood and blued, want to sell at an elevated price but also butch and moan when they want to buy at said elevated price...... It's a vicious circle.....

I look at it this way, if that rifle was sitting at an LGS for $1000 then in my neck of the woods, that is $1130 tax in (excluding shipping).... A $650 assessment, as we see here is a $480 discount for a few safe kisses that I could likely add to the rifle in one hunting trip......

Seems a bit harsh for an Unfired rifle...... I wager that, if the caliber was different, this thread would have headed in a different direction.....

I think you're right...I think the estimated price would be lower. The 7x57 adds to it.

The fact that it is a 7X57 is the ONLY reason I would pay $800. I saw the ad over on Alberta Outdoorsmen a week ago, but listed at $1200, I did not think the seller would move enough on the price to get he gun into the "reasonable" price range... I didn't bother contacting him... I might have bought it for my son to go with his M70 XTR .243 and .308, which he really likes... and which I paid $500 & $450 respectively, both in MINT condition.

I agree with that as well... But if it was, say an aught six, or a .308, and priced at $800 I think l would consider that fair.....

Even with the 7x57, which has little "mass appeal", I would still value it pretty close to $800..... Maybe a $50 "I reload" discount?......

From what i know, the 7x57 is a rare caliber in this rifle and surely worth substantially more than a 308 or 30-06.... we're talking about an xtr featherweight, right?

When that model was on the market I listened to the Winchester hype and tried to talk myself into buying one, but just wasn't a good enough talker!
I carefully examined one at our gun store, but I could not see the quality in them. Almost needed two fingers to pull the trigger.

Don't disagree Bruce...... But based on hype, have you bought an axxis lately?

As for caliber, a rare caliber is rare because little to none use it...... IMOP, it doesn't add value..... Unless it's in a caliber that is sought after by a certain market.. Like a Wagner or .375.........
