I just heard back from the president of the Sherwood Park Fish&Game Club, that the executive has reviewed my proposal to construct a skeet field at their facility, and they have agreed to a further study to determine if the location that I have suggested is suitable for such a project. If the plan is approved by the executive, and then by the CFO, we could begin construction in the spring of 2016, and possibly even have a range operational sometime in 2016. At this time there is only one American skeet field still in operation in Central Alberta, that being at Camrose, and a planned expansion of the city's sewage treatment facility could result in the closure of that facility. This project may be the only hope for skeet to survive in central Alberta.

There are no skeet fields around Edmonton or Red Deer. Most clubs have trap, but not skeet.We have people driving to Camrose from Edmonton to shoot skeet, and from the South as well. There is a field at Beaverhill Sporting Clays,but I believe that it is set up for international skeet. It is also part of their sporting clays field, so it doesn't get used for skeet that I am aware of. If the Sherwood Park field doesn't happen, skeet may disappear in Central Alberta. I am doing whatever I can to keep skeet alive.
I am a new member of the SPFGA range. If there is anything I can do to assist or support this, please ask. Even including manual labour to make this happen. The monthly meeting is on Jan 28. Is this proposal on the agenda? If so, perhaps we can lobby additional members to attend to show demand.

The president , myself and another member of the club are going to do a more detailed mock up of the field than my preliminary study last summer. If the result is that the field will fit as proposed, and in our opinion, the field doesn't provide any safety concerns for the rest of the facility, then it will be up to the CFO to approve the location. At that point, it will be up to the executive to approve the project for 2016. If there is a lot of support for a skeet field from the membership, the executive is more likely to approve the project, so if you would to see this happen, let the executive know.

The Lloydminster Club has 1 skeet field. The club is located on Hwy 17 which separates AB/SK six miles south of town. I am trying to locate a business card I was given last summer by a fellow named Hilmer Johnson. He is out of the Nisku/Leduc area. He is currently building a full blown facility like we would see stateside with Pro Shop, both International and American Trap and Skeet layouts, 5-stand, Sporting Clays, FITASC etc. He is currently the AB distributor for Kent ammunition and also I believe the Perazzi rep as well but not 100% on the Perazzi part. Clay at Prophet River would be able to help with contact info as he knows him quite well should I not be able to locate the card. His new facility is going to be called Kloovenberg and I believe located in the Leduc area?
I will be through Lloydminster next week, and will check with Clay. If the project at Sherwood Park doesn't pan out, that may be an option.
The Red Deer and area shooters go to the Lone Pine Clay Target Club that is located between Olds and Bowden (about 25 minutes south on HWY 2). They have two skeet fields, four trap fields and sporting clays a few times a month.
A half hour South of Red Deer makes for two hours drive from Edmonton, or from my location, so not practical on a regular basis. What is their skeet shooting schedule?
Are you wondering about Registered skeet or casual shooting ? The club is open year round on Sundays and during daylight savings on Wednesday nights as well. They usually host either the Zone or Provincial shoot each year and few registered events.
No longer interested in registered targets or competition, just shoot for fun these days.

There is a very large shotgun range in planning stages in the edmonton area that is waiting on final approvals. My understanding is that they will have american and international skeet when it is built. Aswell as sporting clays, trap and olympic bunker. I imagine it will take a few years to get all of it done but it is in the works.
That is what I am assuming. Hopefully it gets done, and the prices are reasonable. If a person was really desperate, I could shoot skeet at Beaverhill, but $13 per round is steep to shoot skeet there on a regular basis.

Yes that is the one being built by Hilmer(Brad) Johnson. It is from his description he gave going to be his privately owned club built on the model or style of many of the clubs in the southern US where many snowbirds like to winter and shoot. He relayed to me that their will be a full service pro shop complete with gun rentals plus shooting accessories and guns for sale. He is a younger fellow, early 40's with ALOT of land due to being a cattle rancher. I do believe he told me he was building in lands he owned in the Nisku - Leduc area if memory serves? He currently runs a Kent ammunition/gun shop/clay target machine sales etc out of a oilfield service shop he owns in Nisku.

No problem. I met him, his kids and shooting buddies last spring at an ATA shoot. Real nice bunch of fellows and real avid shoot all games clay target shooters. I am looking forward to shooting at his venue.
One other little item.
There is an abandoned skeet field on the Edmonton Gun Club grounds. The traps, and I think the skeet houses have been removed.
I never knew there was as much skeet interest in the Edmonton area. Skeet, in addition to trap, is an excellent way to develop shooting skills required for Sporting Clays.
Please keep posting how activities develop in the future.
