Can some of you guys with 18.5" barrels on your 870's post some pics of your setups please? I just ordered one from another CGNer and I'm curious about ideas of what to do with it. I'm thinking about putting a magazine extension on the gun as well but don't know which size would be best. I.E. +1, +2 or +3. Any info, especially pics, would be extremely helpful as I don't really know where to start with this.

One thing to be cautious of, depending where you live, of you shoot it outside a range, you are considered "hunting" (whether you are or not) and you may be limited to 3 rounds.

I'm in north eastern Ontario (up by Timmins). I get that it could be considered "hunting" technically while even shooting at a sandpit (which is where I shoot, since I'm not a range member) due to the idiotic 1997 "Fish and Game" act, or whatever its actual name is, but I've never had a problem with any COs yet when it comes down to carrying a gun in the bush at any time of the year. And I do carry a gun pretty well year round while in the bush. Even centerfire rifles when there is no season for big game open. I know there's a first time for everything though and not every CO is exactly logical and may choose to enforce that particular ridiculous law, so I do appreciate the heads up.

Depends on what kind of 18.5" barrel you have.

Um, from the pics I received from the seller, it looks to be the exact same as the top one in that picture. The 4 round one with the black for end and bead sight. Do you know what size of magazine extension is that?

That looks great!

That's a +2 extension. No problem carrying any non-restricted gun in ontario at any time, but the way the law is written (stupidly), shotguns are always limited to 3 in our province unless at a range. Stupid. But there it is.

Top one is a 7 shot model like mine. The 4 round tube is the middle shotguns and the +2 is the top one. Advertised as 7 shot, 6 in the tube plus 1 in the chamber.

It's not that I don't believe you, because I most certainly do, but do you know where I can get a link to that sections of the law in writing? I carry around the RCMP Bulletin #72 (LAR Mags) and FRT # with my Tavor when I bring it out to play just in case I get stopped and an overzealous LEO attempts to confiscate it, so if I could find the specific section of the provincial act that states the limits on shotguns anywhere except a range, I could carry that around when I bring the shotgun out and it'd help in case there was ever an, erm, interesting encounter with a CO or Cop.

Look at the 2016 hunting regulations for Ontario, general terms for all hunting, page 29:

You must plug a semi-automatic or repeating shotgun so that it will not hold more than a total of three shells in the chamber and magazine combined.

From the MNR questions and answers page:
Question Re: Number of Shells in Shotgun Do I need to plug my 12 gauge shotgun, so it can only hold 2 shells in the magazine, when I'm hunting deer or grouse? Answer: Yes, the regulation which restricts the number of shells in a shotgun to three (one in chamber, two in the magazine) apply to all hunting, regardless of species.

If you're out in the bush and not hunting it theoretically doesn't have to be plugged, but the onus is on you to prove you're not hunting. Anecdotally, this is VERY VERY hard to prove and like most things firearms, you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent.

Just easier to plug it and keep your truck, your guns, your clean criminal record and your privilege to acquire and own firearms. YMMV.

I think mag extensions and such make tactical shotguns look really cool and aesthetically balanced. But for my personal bush use, I run without them as they add weight and I have to plug them anyway.

That's for hunting, 2 in the tube, one in the chamber. Something to do with the migratory bird act, Some provinces allow more than 3 if not hunting for birds, but in Ont. it is max 3 for everything.

Yes. Ontario is worse with respect to shotgun mag limits than any other province. If you are in the woods, CO's can (and sometimes will) deem you to be hunting.

Perfect. Thank you. I'll just throw a few spent slug hulls and a target with a few slug holes in it behind the seat in the truck. That way, I'm always on the way to, or coming home from target shooting. And I don't plan on carrying this thing in the bush too often anyway because of the very attributes you mention. Not the most ergonomically friendly firearm in my collection. For me, this is more one of those guns that you get because you "just want it" rather than need it.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has posted. It's given me a better idea of what I'm getting myself into here. If anyone has more pics, feel free to post. :d
